Custom iPhone 3G Dock Installed

Hello,

I wanted to install OEM iPhone 3G cradle first, but since I didn't have smartphone option (no music from iPhone), I looked up for another solution.

I have OEM USB Y-Cable with iPhone 3G 8GB and iPod monochrome 60GB,
I mainly use iPod as a music storage (almost fully packed with completed albums),
and iPhone as a phone and a music storage (new released or single songs).

However I didn't really like that I have to open my armrest everytime when I need to take out my iPod or swith iPod to iPhone.
And the main problem is, I keep forget to take iPod/iPhone out from armrest.

So these were my concepts,
1. Easy access to iPhone or iPod
2. Use both iPod and iPhone

I got iPhone dock for E9x 3 series (It will replace stock ashtray).
However it came with wrong cable attached (picture below),

And the holder wasn't tight enough to hold my iPhone or iPod.
So I cut the wrong cable and wired OEM Y-cable to it, also adjusted the connector angle,
At the same time, I extened usb and aux cable so it can be reached at armrest area.

Here are some pictures of final product installed and in use.
It holds my iPhone tight (iPod can be used also), and works great (charge and play music from iPhone).

What I wanted next was "Both iPhone and iPod in use",
Since I can't use both at same time, I got another OEM Y-Cable and Extened USB and Aux cable again.
Then I installed USB mini hub with switch, so I can switch iPhone to iPod or reverse without cable change.
It has LED indicators (Tells me which port is in use) and samll.
I placed it right next to the seatbelt area, so I can have easy access.

In Short, I can choose iPhone in the ashtray or iPod under the armrest by switching the mini hub buttons,
It will bring up the chosen ipod/iphone to i-Drive screen right away.

Now I have both iPhone and iPod in use without openning armrest or swtiching cable.
One click, Easy Access

Is the Iphone G-force proof? meaning if you floor it or take a hard corner will it go flying?

It doesn't matter if you have 6MT or DCT as long as you have iPod/USB option

Dock I've installed isn't an OEM part.. so no part# available..
