Are there any not-cheesy track-oriented license plate frames out there? My new Texas plates have this ugly white border which kind ruins the monochrome look (black plate on black body panel). I'm fine getting a slim/plain black one, but figured why not have a little fun.

Please, no "I'd rather be at a track day" ones.

Hoonigan used to have a simple one that read, "Stop the hate, get a V8" but it's long-since discontinued.

I went for the "classic black" which is a throwback to the first-ever Texas plates. I'm hoping to cover that stupid white border for a cleaner look.

Ross Bentley's podcasts are invaluable. Everyone who drives on track should listen to them. And he has some great instructor-training/coaching ones.

Good luck! One thing that surprised me during instructor training (with BMW, but I assume it's similar) was the role-playing focus on worst case scenarios, eg on how to deal with students who have serious attitude and/or aptitude problems. That threw me off quite a bit. The second hard bit was to actually instruct through an entire lap, lap after lap. Might not be a bad idea to look at some track videos and practice hearing you talk for a few laps.. Have fun and good luck again!

Thanks for the link! My only comment is no more than 3 objectives. I think 3 is a lot...maybe no more than 2?

Good luck...I think instructing is fun as long as the DE org is supportive. When the DE org is not then it becomes a chore. I've had far more great students who were fun to ride with than who were difficult (maybe 4 over the past 7 years?)

One suggestion...don't be afraid to speak up if you are concerned with the car's safety equipment. I made this mistake once and luckily nothing bad happened. The 2nd time, I got out of the car in the paddock. I demanded that the student adjust the harness so the camlock wasn't in my chest. That required the student to take out the seat since it was a super screwy setup. The student was pissed off but oh well...that's where the supportive DE org comes in.

Other than that...be prepared to learn more as an instructor than as a student.

I stopped instructing after being on the roval at AUTOCLUB SPEEDWAY in an e39 m5 who thought he was in a highway battle and we almost ran into a wall that was perpendicular to us

That's where a supportive DE org with standards comes in. Its an issue if a DE org doesn't invest any time or resources in training their instructors. I know BMWCCA does, I think Ross Bentley is coming to Heartland Park and Hallett this year. I've also seen stuff like a DE org use an instructor who is a lower intermediate/high novice driver in other organizations that have standards.

My opinion, a DE org that makes the event free or at least low cost has a higher chance to attract higher quality instructors. I don't do it to get rich but I also expect compensation to instruct. Track time works for me.

It was for a discount for the event but this guy was too out of control no matter what. Lol

Hallett is drivable for me. Do you know when he's there and what group it's with? BMWCCA?

BMWCCA runs Hallett in Nov.

Ross is supposed to be at Heartland Park. I read something he might be at Hallett...no details yet.

Let me know what you hear. Would be great to finally meet him and I'm obviously anxious to try a new track.

Anyone here with an Arai GP-5W helmet looking for a new visor? I blew it on the return window for a light smoke dual-pane visor. It's brand new in the bag. MSRP is about $129.
