No it wont, not unless you come to a complete stop.
Sure it will. Not easy with 6MT, but very easy with DCT.

Must be tracks with a very tight corner that would need 1st...

Autocrossing would definitely require downshifts to 1st to maximize the powerband though.
Yep.

....Except that tracking and auto crossing are different. Both are motorsports, sure, but one entertains significantly tighter spaces and lower speeds than the other, which can reasonably necessitate the use of first gear. But the comment was on regards to tracking not auto crossing. So yeah, GG. Oh, and I've done autocross too. Aren't cars fun?

Autoclub Speedway. Oh wait, that's the autocross course I'm referring to. lul

In the beginner group?

Been to mid-Ohio, Watkins glen, poconos, and VIR. Only time I've ever used first on a track is when I'm pulling out of the pits.

I've been in the beginner group for the last 5 years... keeping my fingers crossed to move up this year.
Maybe if you didn't throw it into first, your instructor might bump you to the intermediate group?

Amen. I have a steep driveway and getting caught in second lugs the hell out of the engine. I always have to downshift to first since my DCT lags way too long in second.

I've been driving a stick for like 20 years (until now).. I don't ever recall purposely going into 1st gear from a higher gear while moving..

I do the same, the car will go to first if it needs to, I down shift to second and then let it choose if it wants 1st or not.

It's easy if you do a rev-matched double-clutch downshift. Much easier than shifting from 1 to 2.

Impossible to shift; car only has enough torque in first gear.

Any chance we can retire this thread? 5 pages on the shifting habits of 1st gear seems silly. Obviously we use it and some of us use it more/less depending on personal driving habits.
