Fark. The dirty m3 picture thread must drive you guys nuts.

I always stow my external mirrors When I park outside the garage.

I also wipe the exhaust tips clean once a week.

It angered me when my parents (Dad especially) would say something like, "Oh, it's just a car." Umm, it's probably the 2nd most expensive thing you own. What's next? "Oh, it's just a house?" I suppose he's stressing that it's a material item, but so what? Whether it's $10 or $100,000 it's someone's hard earned money, right?

I used to have a s2k too. you're good in my book mate haha.

but the using the lint cleaner and washing windows every time and the valet parkers?

easy way to fix that valet issue is to tip properly. Maybe it's not that big of a deal here in L.A where p-cars, ferraris, get valeted all the time. I'd be more worried if I get DCT and the valet didn't know how to use it lol.

I clean my winshield/windows every two days, and I've found the best product for it too!

This product definitely works better than Invisible Glass, no streak what so ever if you use the right microfiber

For me, it's a pleasure, not a hassle.
I find the ritual of cleaning my windows quite soothing. No kidding.

What's interesting is that I've never seen a neglected M3 before.
I wonder if the M3 attracts a certain personality type. We all may have more in common than we think.

None. Leather lotions change the look and feel of the leather permanently. The best treatment is some good quality tints and keeping the car out of the sun as much as is practically possible.

This entire thread makes me feel better about myself. I knew I wasn't the only one who obsessed over the M, but now I can see there's a small army of people who feel the same way lol.

I started executive parking my car when I first got my E46 M but have continued doing so regardless of the car I'm driving. 1.) I really don't mind walking, 2.) you can find a spot so much faster, and 3.) it's much easier to get out if it's a crazy busy lot, no need to worry about a car zooming by out of nowhere or pedestrians magically appearing behind your car. This holds especially true in lots that are visited by mostly peolple driving large SUVs since they're impossible to see around when backing out of a spot.

I'm convinced some m3 owners have full-fledged relationships with their cars after reading this! Haha

Some truly anal owners have posted and I do understand, here's a few of my quirks for the my M.

1. Window cleaning.... Only when visibility is impaired 50% or more, dirty windows makes the whole M3 experience more fun.
2. Smoking.. I have a simple rule if you dont smoke or dont like me smoking f***in walk, cigars, love em fire it up and my M is 420 friendly so feel free!
3. Wash and detail once a month needed or not, when I get it cleaned its like getting a new car all over again, how cool is that!
4. Parking pfffttt closest to the door baby I dont care if the guy next to me needs a damn can opener to get in his car, me getting into where ever it is that I need to go to is more important than parking out in the back forty.
5. Farting is indeed allowed and I find it conditions the leather to a point, I do ask that you refrain from any wet farts though.
6. I carry a lint roller but it sure is hell isnt to do the mats with, you would need a hay rake for that. Its to primp before going in public due to me owning a small white and buff Spaniel that thinks he a god damned canine sweater factory on paws.
7. Food, absolutely just try to get at least 65 to 70% in your face so the residuals left in the seat can be cleaned up by the aforementioned Spaniel he loves it.
8. Valet parking... Oh yeah, I taunt the valets that they cant do as good a burn out as me.......... and then prove it to them!
9. I always make sure I touch as many areas of the boot as possible when closing the trunk and when I harvest a tasty youngster from the bar I make sure I use my dirty manhood to slam the thing shut before heading to the landfill with the corpse..... Just for principle of course.
10. Lastly I saw an inquiry as to what is the best "seat lotion" to use, well try some Astro Lube it has many on board advantages over that other shit people recommended plus it make it easy to sliiiiiiiide out of the seat.

I will often go down and spit polish the shift knob after a satisfying drive... I might even deep-throat it if the car shows me an especially good time.

I just bring my M3 to the detailers every 3 months for a full detail-- car comes back brand new every time.

I bought my car to drive -- not be a servant to it

Hi Everyone (Hi Paul/Si if you read this thread)

Love this post best one in ages!!!

As my M3 is my daily driver I leave my roofracks on all the time and regularly

1. Take it mountain biking, with friends, up to 3 muddy bikes, gets covered in sh*t
2. Use it to cart my windsurfing gear to the beach, salt water inside and out, particualary gnarly last time drove of up the road and what looked like a bucket of saltwater poured out of a wet sail on the roof down the back windscreen.....carbon roof won't rust though!
3. Regualary take kids and our little dog in it
4. Ring the cr*p out of it at www.rmatrackdays.co.nz track days

Risk mitigations

I have the factory boot liner
I try to hose it down if it get totally soaked in saltwater/if its really 'onshore" and it gets caked in salt spray (modern cars don't really rust)
I put a dog mat in
I warm the car and and cool it down at the track / daily driving

Every couple of weeks I clean inside and out and comes up good as new! It loves it, my last 335d looked like new when I traded it!

Rather than spit-polishing the insides of your exhaust tips, may I suggest taking your M3 to an HDPE/trackday? After a day at the track last June, I was amazed to see how running for extended periods at 6000-8000 rpm cleaned the usual soot out of my M5 exhaust--kind of like a self-cleaning oven, it bakes that crap right out. Well, at least they stayed shiny for a day or so...

+1 on everything. What I have not seen is the ZCP wheels. I clean those suckers almost every day. I can't get my f&*%&^@# hand in between and I am so anal that I end up making sure the entire wheel front and back is clean so it take me almost an hour. Wife thinks i got issues.
