Thumbs up Sport Auto Comparison Test: M3 vs. Audi RS5 review

Today's Sport Auto features a comparison test between the E92 M3 DCT ZCP and the new Audi RS5. Let's dance...

Here are the results:

Some here might have guessed that already, the M3 won that comparison. Sport Auto's verdict pretty much summed up that the M3 and the RS5 are built for different people. It's not so much a surprise that the M3 beat the RS5 in virtually all performance categories, surprising though is that Sport Auto even liked the ride in the M3 (EDC) more than Audi's adaptive suspension. On top, the M3 testcar was roughly 10k € cheaper.

As to the M3, this is the first Hockenheim time we have for a ZCP E92 with DCT, which -- on regular Michelin PS2 -- was even a tenth faster than the E92 M3 (6MT) on Cup+ tires.

Best regards,
south

I would buy the RS5 regardless. Its much more exclusive than the M3 and it can hang out with more expensive cars based on looks.

BTW the resale value of the RS5 will hold up better than the M3

RS5>M3

Not in Germany....lol, S5's and RS5's are almost getting Mustang status over here. There are far more 335i's than S5's though... in your defense.

What is surprising is how BMW could know that 10 mm lower springs, modified EDC and wider rims with stock tires would just be enough to stay ahead of the RS5 (on track)!

Those are two of the most ridiculous reasons (first two of course) to buy a car.

0 - 100 km/h in 5s for M3?! In the official presentation the time was 4.6s (with DCT)!
The M division it s still hard to be defeated!
The same result will be in the future comparative test: M1 vs RS3!

Yeah, they mentioned that launch control allowed too much slip, so 5s flat was their best result.

I love the RS5. audis lineup is totally sick, they know how to make aggressive looking cars. Especially the beautiful looking R8 sorry guys but its just my opinion.

I wonder if they tried different RPM settings for LC? I'm sure they did, but just a thought.

Is that right? The M3 uses less fuel?

Any chance of posting scans South?

I considered waiting on the RS5, before picking up a 2011 M3. Big issue was whether the RS5 would be available in the U.S. and the estimated price quotes ( > $100K).

Glad to see I chose correctly.

It's not mentioned, but I hope they did.

Yep, that's the good thing about Sport Auto, they drive the cars like they're meant to be driven, so the fuel figures are quite plausible.

Whats the point of buying a sports car for its looks??? u must not have very good roads around where u are...cause if you had some of the ones i have you would never buy something that weights as much as the rs5 does, especially with most of the weight in the front axle...i can only imagine how that feels going into corners...audis are for wankers. They can pretend they are a "sports" orientated car maker but those who really enjoy driving now where to go to when they need something good. (except the R8 but thats a lambo with audi badge anyway)

He's not a poser. People buy sports cars for speed, handling and looks. I challenge you to take either of these cars to their limit... for anyone who likes a sport car and doesn't track it, owning either won't make a big difference. It will be mostly based on looks and feel.

lol no it cant. the average idiot wont be able to tell an A5 from an RS5. that same idiot wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 328 or an M3.
Yea, ok, maybe because its rarer you can say that its more exclusive, but in the end they all look the same. do you honestly think that any R8 driver (c**k, realy) is going to thing you can hang with them? No.
