Ugh oh, haha. I just tried to get a smog today and was not ready due to a tune I put on recently, so I'm now doing research and not liking what I am finding.

You're telling me I had to
1. Buy a new tuning cable
2. Replace secondary airpump
3. Replace Air pump suction hose

Over $900 just in parts

I have done the drive cycle but cannot do it in order. Saturday I did a cold start idle for 5 minutes. Yesterday I drove it on the freeway for 15 minutes below 3000 rpm and between 40-60mph. Then coasted to a stop and idled for 5 minutes. Then turned the car off and on and drove it from 20-30mph for 5 minutes. Still missing the following readiness. Any ideas which tests i still need to do?

I don't think there is any way to figure out which tests are incomplete. You'll likely have to keep redoing them until they show ready. Make sure you don't have any tunes and that the stock file is loaded.

Mpower7 are you still having a problem? Because getting this thing to pass inspection for me has been a nightmare. Over $1200 in repairs and 350 miles. Still get the same "not ready". Now the mechanic is telling me there's nothing he can do until it throws a code. Because of this I cannot register or inspect my car

Yes, I will not be able to load the stock tune on until tomorrow and have only been able to put city miles on the car. Everything is complete except the 02 sensors I believe.

Think it's really necessary to go back to stock tine? Even though it's stage 1?

You're in better shape than me then. It looks like we have the same scan tool and I'm getting incomplete on the following evap system, secondy air, o2 sensor monitoring and oxygen sensor heat monitoring. At this point I feel like I'm wasting my time driving the car. What exactly do you mean by stage 1? Unfortunately when it comes to Tunes all the ones I've seen turn off the secondary air system which will cause some sensors to not show ready. You will have to flash it stock.

What's moronic about this is that I passed smog and am not polluting the environment (yet) but can't get the cert due to a monitor?

You could try getting am exemption - after $450 +/- spent on repairs - you should be eligible for 1 year exemption in NY.

Failed my first test - e90 M3 I picked up had test pipes and a BPM stage II tune. Readiness was failing - I had just swapped the throttle actuators a week before and disconnected the battery. No codes were showing - just failed readiness portion with 'not complete' for Cats and O2. Did the OBD drive cycle 2-3 times in the past 24 hours - took the car back and passed.

2:30 - Cold start with as many items putting load on electrical as possible
3:15 - 20-30mph
15:00 - 40-60 mph
5:00 - Stop and idol before shut off and restart

Toughest part was finding roads with no stop signs or cars pulling out in front of you. Key was to keep RPM below 3000 and speed below 60.

Good luck - glad it worked for me as I didnt want to re-install cats and flash back to stock or mess with O2 extenders, etc.

holy cow
trying to driving under 60 mph and under 3k for 15 minutes was so difficult
i went on the freeway around 9:30pm ...
got tailgated, had jackasses cut me off, buzz by me when the lanes are merging ... terrible drivers out there

hopefully i did everything correctly so my car is ready now

ended up trying the drive cycle 3 times
o2 sensor still not ready

then i took an extended drive, keeping it mostly 45-55 mph under 3k rpm and the car was finally ready after that
passed smog today

i probably put about 150 miles on the car in the past 3 days just for the purpose of getting it ready for the smog check

For the last step, after you drive for 15 minutes going 55mph, you decelerate, what do you in a 6MT? It says don't brake, shift gears, or press the clutch??? You come to a stop and stall then?

Battery went dead and I needed to redo my OBD readiness. I was able to get all but 1 done today... took about 50 miles.

Looking at the instructions, it looks like "Secondary Air" requires a cold start idle for 2 min. Is that idle in park, idle in gear? I assume that's also going to require a stone cold start in the AM?

Have my NY inspection/emission test next week. Have always passed (BPM stage 1). Will it pass if Secondary Air is incomplete?

I thought you can have one monitor not ready and pass. So it should pass with Secondary Air incomplete. Here in CA, O2 has to be ready and you can pass with only one other monitor not ready.
