ONLY way to get full sweep with the 380mm F80 discs is a custom pad. I ran the EBC yellows. Its worth nothing the outer sweep cuts into the pad and can cause judder (I experienced this) so for those who consider the Alfa 6 pots with the largest of EBC pads, don't.
I had custom set made by Carbotec ($440 for a set!) and now have full sweep on the F80 380mm discs with Alfa 6 pots. Braking is absolutely perfect. |

To clarify, if you run the alfa 6pot caliper with OEM 360mm rotor and D1665 (65mm) pads you get full pad sweep. I run this combo with no issues.
Clears 219 wheels as well. |

I paid 50 to ship 100 brake pads that look horrible. Was sent the wrong bracket bolts. And to pay 440 for pads is insane lmao I'll stick with the Shelby pads for now

Just make sure to check what the outer sweep is doing. Here is a visual of what is happening on the outer sweep with Shelby pads, which leads to judder. Anyway thank me later |

I suspect though I was the guinea pig for setting up the pads for this application so a repeat set might not cost so much in the future. |

After the long diatribe, does anyone know if the stock wear sensor works with the rear F8X pads? |

Have anyone looked at the M performance brake kit for F30x, F22? They are 370mm rotors with new front and rear calipers for $2,200.

F30 and F80 use the same hub design and rotors. It just has a smaller rotor and caliper. F80 is known to be direct bolt on E90 if you replace the hub with F80 hubs. F80 caliper and rotors are direct replacement for F30. So you can bolt on F30 calipers and rotors with F80 hubs.

Ive been following this for a while, I ended up doing the f80 complete swap with the uprights and kept the f80 wheel bearings. I added in stainless lines, Porterfield r4s pads and motul 5.1 fluid.
I can say that the setup is an upgrade over the stock setup aesthetically and also from a performance standpoint. I do not track my e90, but it does make roughly 2X the power of a stock car and repeated stops/slow downs from 150+mph have not been an issue. Pedal modulation also not an issue, a little more predictable with this setup as opposed to stock. Works for me, only thing I may do is to refinish the calipers to a diff color in the offseason.

Took da plunge...BBK retrofit
Decided to pull the trigger on the Signature Werks ZL1 1LE retrofit kit [F 6-piston +R 4-piston].
Appreciate all ACTUAL users feedback posted... Been assessing ‘balanced’ performance/price/hassle-free upgrade solution for a while. With M3Post reviews, other sources, and probing along with multiple emails with Nick@Signature Werks…Order placed. IMO… F80 M4 Retrofit- Approach is discouraging, fraught with a plethora Extras req’d - parts, fitment mods, labor while fronts with only 4-pistons… too much hassle, and still a bit pricey given all [ i.e. restricted to 19” wheels, spindle replacements, cutting, etc] Cost/Benefit - Since I don’t track, no need to spend > +$8K for an AM F+R retrofit. Expecting a solid improvement in performance & ‘curb appeal’ fit the bill for my OE+ daily drive. Other Factors:
Obviously, outcomes pending until install/use. Certainly, will provide feedback/results with experience and miles. ...dare I ask, comments?

The signature kit doesn’t look to provide full sweep? Any updated pictures of the rear with pads? Any other issues after putting on some miles?

Sig kit is basically rehashing Slon's Brembos. Common OEM Brembo which are lug mount, carefully CNC'd & converted to radial. 65mm or 75mm pad depth depending on 360 or 380mm rotor option. The only reason you'd get discrepancy in pad sweep is because of the upright caliper adaptor. I have no issues (with Slon kit) switching between FRP3133 and FRP3106 Ferodo pad shapes for street/track. You'll notice the former is not really made/stocked in anything above DS2500 which is a common theme for other pad manufacturers and as indicated on the sigworks website.
The Freakyparts(??) AMG kit and pad options look very similar. IIRC when I was doing research on them, the piston sizes were slightly larger than ZL1 (30,34,38mm). The casting on this OE Brembo is slightly different esp around the brake line feed. Racingbrake's website is a good reference for piston sizes: https://racingbrake.com/mercedes-4/ I'd personally go the reds. The gold ones are probably exactly the same as Nissan GTR calipers. Stumbled upon the GT350R pad when someone mentioned GT500 <14MY here. It might work with the 380mm rotor. It's the right 189.2mm by 92.7mm with a 16.3mm thickness along with 75mm depth. It's also made in common performance pad options. Pad ear shape is different though. I don't think that's a problem for track use where you don't need the anti-rattle retention clips. I currently use GTR shape which is 189.2mm by 92.7mm with an 18.8mm thickness on the OE 360x30mm rotor which are wearing out pretty fast with my use. Interesting that Sig works offers Paragon's 380x34mm option though. They would have to be using the thinner 16.3mm pads which is why they really only offer MX72 and DS2500 I guess. I've been looking for a rotor ring in the 365-378mm and 30-32mm thickness range to keep 18" track wheel clearance adequate. Adaptors won't be a problem, I can have them scanned with adjustments made to optimise swept area for such ring. Ideally staying 65mm pad depth to prevent wheel fitment issues.

Just fitted the G series smaller 4 pot Brembo brakes on e92 m3.
Basically bolt-on, only modifications required are 2mm washer, cut the dust shields from bottom side 2-3cm, cut the brake pads from bottom side ~3mm. I used the 7 series G11 740i 2017 unpainted calipers and painted black. Will but some sticker there aswell. Exactly the same as the red/blue ones but much better price and easier to find. Have to figure out the brake pads - for these calipers there are 2-3 different pads from the g 3series, 7series, x4.. Might find pads that dont require cutting. ~300$ in total After few spirited drives i can already tell that the brakes bite much sharper and brake fade comes much later. Still need to do the ABS/DCS bleed procedure through inpa as sometimes they feel little bit mushy, bleeded without the procedure. Also clears 18inch style 640m rims. Did not weigh them but they are muchhh lighter than stock ones. Last edited by andrihallik; 03-27-2024 at 05:45 AM.. |
