I had been fighting this wheel/tire since that set of tire went on these rims. I would inflate to 40psi, let sit overnight and check the next morning. Everything would be fine. I inflate to 26psi, go out on track, some time I come back and the pressure is 30-34psi but other times I come back and it is 16-18psi. Before this event, I had the tire unmounted and remounted to see if that would fix it. It didn't.
They are 3-pieces wheels so now I'm thinking that there is some kind of air leak at the seal under high Gs. I think the tire jumped the rim because the pressure got too low. I'm going to rebuilt the wheel and see if the problem disappear. |

Also, how did you bring another set of wheels in that go-cart? You said you switched wheels and went back out?

That go-cart needs a trailer and tow truck. Once you put your helmet and shoes in the car, there's no more space left! I had 2 extra sets of tires in the truck bed Too late now, 3-pieces is what I have. The good thing is it's easier to fix if I bend one. But the flip side is that you have to deal with little issues like air leaks. |

Ran a side-by-side test at Bottonwillow between TDs and R6s in same sizes (295/245). The TDs were 1-1.5s faster for me. The R6s are easier to slide around compared to the TDs. TDs are "choppy" once you get to edge of traction.

Good info!! One of the few times we get to see side by side comparisons of actual tire performance with same driver, car, day, and track. |

Why doesn't TD have any love for the guys who have cars with wide hips (that goes for Nitto too)??? What's interesting is that I ran a 2:02 CCW on NT01s/RA1s with an instructor and ran a 1:57 on R6s without an instructor. I do think part of the difference had to do with no going too crazy because of having an instructor in the car. So for me, the difference between R6s and NT01s/RA1s is about 3-4 sec.

Did you run 1:57 on the same day, same direction? Different day and conditions can account for some differences, maybe 1-2sec. The BMWCCA week-end was a bit windy with some sand on the tracks in some sections. |

Either of you run the A6s yet? I think I'm trying those next. Most of the Z06 guys run those I realized. Guess they are a bit faster than R6s even after they get greasy. I initially thought they were just for autocross but after talking to a few people I guess they are fine for HPDE or races shorter than 30 min.

I was wondering who's the instructor in that car... Dude was BOOKING it. Probably would have been one of the fast guys even in B.

He did and will .
The problem is that sometimes the events are far and few inbetween. The next local CCA event is at Buttonwillow for one day (Friday). I can't be bothered to drive there for a single day. Now I'm forced to run around with PCA-SD and a bunch of P-Cars the week after next to get my Chuckwalla CCW fix again

IMO, once the chapter(s) start seeing more participation the events will return. I was "made" during the golden years when the region would do 2 weekends at Buttonwillow (one hosted by San Diego, one hosted by Central Cal), one weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, one weekend at Willow Springs, one weekend at Cal Speedway, one weekend at Laguna Seca, one weekend at Sears Point, and one weekend at Thunderhill. There used to be an event every 3-5 weeks if you sprinkle in a few DCI one day-er.
Maybe now that there'll be an ITS and Chuckwallah being financially successful, some of the local chapters will look into adding one more weekend in their annual track schedule. One can only hope. |
