Oh, and haven't driven a 991 of any kind almost certainly.

Seriously, I have and love and m3, but who the hell thinks it's a better car than a 991 gt3?

Read recent Car and Driver the thing is as fast as a 458 through the quarter mile, at half the cost.
The law of diminishing returns definitely seems to apply to supercars.

Are you forgetting about the 100 extra lb-ft of torque?

Good point, and it does it all while having ~100 less hp. 458 is great, have a friend who has two but even he will tell you his GT Porsches are better cars and the 991 GT3 has taken it to a whole new level.

Should be here early spring so you can guess what my answer will be.

Really not a comparison between the 2 cars since the m3/m4 doesn't even really compare to the 991s
This. New M4 might come close in a straight but thats about as far as the comparo goes.

Why hasn't this thread been moved to off-topic? At worst, it should be in vs, but it's not even a car vs the current M3.

With a 25k budget - e46 m3 track prepped

With a 50k budget - wait for the m2 euro delivery

With a 75k budget - wait for the m4 euro delivery

With 85k budget - order a new cayman s (sport chrono, sport suspension, sport exhaust)

With 95k budget - used low mileage 997 GT3

OP I say get the M4. If you get the Porsche you would have to make new friends on the Porsche boards, and I am not sure they would tolerate your insecurities and indecisiveness as well as this nice bunch here. Lol

I kid. Sort of.
But he would already have witnesses 73291048830273 dct vs 6mt vs f80 vs e90 vs e46 threads. He will god in the pcar forums once plenty get their hands on a gt3 pdk.

I would take a gt3 as a daily driver 10000% of the time.

Whats the next question?

320d or cayman S?!

While I agree the m3 has more grunt for the money, the new cayman s is no slouch - especially in the corners.

Curb weight is a svelte 2900 lbs with 325 naturally aspirated horsepower while the e92 we all enjoy weighs in at over 3450 lbs with 414 naturally aspirated (albeit high-rev required and low end lethargic) horsepower. That's a difference of 8.9 lbs per bhp on the porsche vs 8.3 lbs per bhp on the m3. Oh, and let's not forget torque where the m3's 240 lb ft is waxed by the lighter cayman's 275 lb ft.

My take - the e92 (and maybe the new m4) is a great all-rounder with controlled oversteer on tap while the cayman s (or R if they bring it back) is a more precise track tool. I love the m cars - probably too much - just have to give props to porsche.

If the cayman s were priced identically to the m3, I suspect we'd have fewer forum members.

Uh m3 has 295lb ft of torque no?

Its funny how ppl say the torque is lacking in this thing. If it had 5 more lbft to make it 300, ppl would say it has plenty of torque
