3rd party warranties that don't need to be bought from dealer?

So long story short picking up an 2011 E90 M3 ZCP Sedan tomorrow. I know mixed opinions on warranties which is fine looking to do a little research to read over exclusions and see if one will work for me.

Obviously they won't give pricing and want you to call which I have started doing but run into some not covering any M/AMG/S/Etc stuff.

So want to know who has had success in getting a company to cover so I can discuss it with them. And on top of that if there is a way to purchase some of the higher reviewed ones like Fidelity or Warranty Solutions post purchase. Anyone know if possible to purchase these later from a dealer that sells them once I get the car back to GA where I live?

The car is coming from a dealer that has a lower reviewed offering and don't want to use that.

I have had good experiences with route66, can be bought from your credit union. Had it on my 07 335i and they paid out close to $10K to replace turbos and misc stuff. I now have a 2011 E90 M3 and have route66. Haven't had to use it yet, knock on wood.
I paid $1700 for 3yrs 36K miles

I agree with this post. I have had Route66 on my 2011 335i and my wife's 2012 X5. I have a BMW extended warranty on my M3 that came with the purchase. However, after this lapses, I will move to Route66 again. Great coverage and pretty easy claims process.

I've heard great thing about Route 66 as well - I'd have gone through them for my X5 but they stopped writing those a few years back. I went with CNA (for my X5, no warranty on my M3) and they've been very good, the warranty has already paid for itself.

I would just reiterate that it's not just the company you choose, but the specific warranty. I know Route 66, and probably most warranty companies, have both exclusionary & inclusionary warranties. A member on the X5 boards purchased a Route 66 inclusionary warranty and it excluded coverage on a number of needed repairs. Get an exclusionary if you want the highest level of coverage possible.

Honestly, too much anxiety associated with 3rd party warranties. Only one Id trust is the 4 year extended through BMW or a company like CarMax, all the rest have you by the balls.

I understand that. One was purchased back in the day for my 99 M3 and it was well worth it. Had another car that I inherited one and again it worked now out.

The catch is people don’t read the what is not covered and then don’t follow maintenance schedules. Or DIY and then no “records”.

So just want to do some more reading and make a decision. Those with Route 66 do they do M3? Seems they do. And you have to join credit union to get it?

I bought Ally warranty which covers the car bumper to bumper, including all electric, rod bearings etc. (basically everything in my M3 is covered). It was 5/60K miles

Bought at time of purchase? Can add it on later?

I bought it during time of purchase because i want to have the piece of mind that if anything goes wrong with the car, i was covered.
Cross fingers that nothing will happened, but is just that the bills can add up quickly for M3, so i decide that extra $4K for 5/60K miles is nothing.

I bought my warranty at time of purchase from the dealer (Autonation). In 13 months it has covered the following:

Oil pan gasket
Front sway bar bushings
Engine mounts
Valve cover gaskets
OFHG
Rod bearings/bolts
Transmission leak
Rear differential leak

All work was done at my local BMW dealership so obviously the $ is high on repair costs. The warranty has paid itself off 4 times over. My warranty experience has been a successful one.

Here is a link to a thread and post about Assurant Warranty that I purchased through USAA. Short answer, I filed approximately $35k in claims including for a blown motor. Assurant paid up to what they reasonably capped my covered at (value of car). Excellent experience with Assurant and USAA.

Yah an old M3 of mine(It was a 99 coupe) had a 3rd party warranty and it didn't get a replacement motor but did get a trans and everything that broke. It was 15-20K easily.

However I do not have USAA so not sure how I would get access.
