You own a BMW and someone calling you a dick makes you flustered? Must not of owned it for very long.

You should build up an immunity to such shallow insults. Especially, on the internet.

Garage List
Mine goes in for it's 1200mile service so I will be asking about the software upgrade at that time. So far I have experienced a 'no power' moment at a stop sign and 'no power' when selecting reverse, at that point the revs would rise with throttle which leads me to think that the clutch hadn't engaged even though it showed 'R' in the display and the level was in the right position.

All minor problems in my book.

What? Are you reading the same thread, here? How many more people have to chime in before you see why you were wrong? You started at me with your blatant sarcasm and obvious attempt to cut me down. All I did was respond to your post for pete sake.

Amazing that someone can be this blinded by hubris.

Let's get this straight: M3 drivers are not, repeat not, dicks! They are cocks. Ok? It doesn't matter if they have a clutch pedal or not. I've driven both kinds and they are each about as much fun as you can have behind the wheel -- 6MT, SMG or DCT.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming ...

Software update is waiting for EPA testing or something like that. Then it will be released to BMW technicians.

I am also going in for my 1200 mile service- Thursday to be exact. I have not experienced any power issues in general- but I must say all the postings leave me a bit concerned. I will ask my SA, hopefully the dealership will have additional information on software upgrades. Tips or coaching points anyone? I plan to spend the duration of my service asking a bunch of questions like- "The operators manual mentions a first aid kit and warning triangle as a part of the vehicle's equipment listing... how did you manage to make my first aid kit and warning triangle invisible?" Apologizes- got a little off topic. Will keep you posted on my visit to the dealer and software questions.

USA cars do not get the warning triangle or first aid kit.

I had my car in again for the mystery 2->6 and 3->7 shifting mid turn. Got the same info about the pending update in a few weeks. They expect it to address this problem also.

Under aggressive at the limit cornering the car will shift from 2->6 or 3->7 on its own.

Understand first aid kit and warning triangle are equipped with cloaking device. Appreciate the clarification and saving me a pointless discussion with my sales rep.

We need a summary of known M-DCT issues, "moderated" by those of us "in the know". I am sticking to issues that have been reported by reputable members with verification from others. I thought about making a separate thread for this but let's just get these down right here in one place for now. Not sure if I will edit this post or make new posts.
  1. Temporary loss of power at low (speed+gear+rpm) which happens just after some throttle "indecisiveness".
  2. Infrequent ignored upshifts.
  3. Engine stalling during take off.
  4. Ignored downshifts during on limit braking.
  5. Shifts from 2->6 and 3->7 in S mode occuring without shift requests during on limit cornering.

I am sticking to clear bugs here and personally do not consider the following to be part of this list above:
  • Delay between paddle actuation and begining of clutch operation
  • Low throttle sensitivity during low to moderate acceleration take off

In D5, flooring it out of first, it won't shift at redline in first gear, it shifts way early.

Mine has been upgraded when my car had 2000 kms....when i did 4-3, sometimes, it did 4-2...or 3-2, it did 3-1!

So they upgraded the software of the DKG, and it did not occured anymore.

I tracked the car one week ago, and with a lot of gear changes, with all the agressivness the track demands, there was not any problem, just once in the day, the car did not downshift and stayed in 4. I've had to stop, push the stick to drive then manual, and it worked has if nothing had happened.

So i have to admit this update is a good thing!!

You sure you have it? What about the shift lag?

i went to bmw seller saying the DKG had a shift problem, they sent a demand to BMW France who asked the garage to do this update.

Concerning the "lag" which is, i think, unrisable as it's a doubleclutch gearbox, i don't feel it anymore when i'm in S6, but it's certainly, due to the fact that i drive the car everyday, so i accomodate with it.

Please look on your service receipt and tell us the SIB number listed on it. Or better yet, just post a copy of your service receipt.
