Doing just the center console wouldn't be so bad on the wallet or the installation time, and it could be a good middle ground between the extended is too much and the non-extended isn't quite enough crowds. Any opinions on how that would look?

Like most said, 2-3 times the cost instead of doing at the factory. $7-8k with a proper installation, very good upholstery shop.

I would go to a good upholstery shop and see how much they can wrap whatever you want wrapped with their leathers - I don't think it will be THAT hard to match the BMW M3 Novillo?

um, the center console is quoted as being less than $1k in this thread, install should be a pretty easy DIY

It's all BMW's fault for making the NAV a requirement to get extended leather. While I can understand their business reasoning for doing that (probably not many getting ext leather that aren't also getting nav). A small minority of us are getting left out

IMO extended leather should always have been and should always be an option on a car as expensive as an M3.

I agree that it should have been included with the car! I looked into installing just the center console, and installation time at the dealer was several hours and cost more than the piece. I am looking at another option, but may just get the center console, and possibly the glove box because it also has the stitching and is less than $150. I was also looking into wrapping some in alcantara, but was often told that they would have to have somebody remove the entire front dash to wrap it. $$$$$$$$$

Also, is the front dash completely connected? Or it the lower part separate from the upper. It looks like you have to order the entire dash as a unit.

I think FULL leather should be an option! It's a notch above extended -- top of dash, doors and probably other areas could be covered in leather. I think an Alcantara headliner would be a cut above the Anthracite cloth they're using now too. (Ever see that in the E39 M5? Gorgeous!)

Why they make you get NAV for extended leather now is beyond me. I guess BMWNA feels that they can get more money from you that way. At least my '08 M3 has extended leather and no NAV.

Cheers.

With '$7-8k' you could do the whole damn car, including recaro seats . Extended cost is $1,100, and I doubt it costs 3 times even if you buy all new parts from Tischer. I'd say it costs about the same to wrap existing parts, but doubt they'd look like factory. And maybe half that more if you don't want to deal with the disassembly. Personally, I'd leave the car alone if it wasn't ordered from the factory, but that's just me. And yes, I have extended. Good day.

If I remember correctly IND found the "impossible to find OEM BMW Hides" and used them to custom reupholster BMW Performance seats? On that one fully custom blue M3 with roll bars and CF to cover where the rear seats was.

I would like to get a black Extended Leather Center Console for my car.

Has anyone actually bought one of these for $670.70 from Tischer or United? I wonder if they are actually available at that price?

Does anyone have pics of the standard vs Extened side by side?

I almost did, and probably will just do the center console...was looking into alcantara, but would be even more expensive I think.

Alcantar, proving that its REAL alcantara, will be more expensive. But many people will tell you that "their" alcantara is real, which is just some kind of suade. Real alcantara is very very hard to source especially the OEM one.
You can get your fake looking alcantara at many places and its not too expensive.

It must be, because non-extended would be the same as black.

I agree, the dash is just too involved for a retrofit.

My guess is that they compiled 2008 model build orders and saw that not a lot of people were getting the extended leather, and the ones that did almost always got navigation. And since ordering nav takes a different dash it would be a waste for them to produce the non-nav extended leather dashes.

Bringing back an old thread. I was recently looking at some interior mods and feel like the extended leather in my color (silver) is a much nicer look.

Can someone confirm that part#1 on this list is actually the extended leather piece for the extended leather center console. If so, $745 isn't a bad price at all...

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...22&hg=51&fg=35

Anyone know what a typical install of something like this would cost (or how hard it would be?)

www.realoem.com to find BMW part #'s.

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_5710

Part # is 51-45-8-037-497 for black extended, single 'scoop' as they call it (never heard of it called that, the forum has always referred to it as single 'hump')

Part is discontinued -

I just looked at the order guide and it says extended leather must be ordered with 609 or ZTP. 609 is the navigation system and ZTP comes with navigation.

But it does seem like did make it for non idrive. Maybe it was just for customer orders or the non US market?

Thanks for sharing the part. Very interested if anyone has one.
