Keep my 08 or sell?

I've been thinking of selling the car and upgrading to another e92 m3 with lower miles. I'm currently sitting at 87k miles/140k km and though the car is running well, i'm wondering if i should just get a lower mileage car instead of spending the same money on replacing parts on my older car. so far i've replaced the actuators, done two full brake jobs, sensors here and there, on the original rod bearings. So far the car has been pretty good, considering 6 or 7 track days/weekends and general sportive driving and daily driving. i've put about 95k km on the car since i bought it and love the driving experience. honestly can't think of another car in the same price range to offer the same package, particularly powertrain. this is why i would want another low mile one, any thoughts? also what would you say is a dramatic upgrade to a later model e92 m3, and any benefit or major difference between e92 and e90 m3 for track driving?

Ur in the sweet spot of ownership from a cost perspective. Change the rod bearings and go another 50k miles. The 2008 is the same car as a 2013 where it matters - engine, suspension and chassis.

If u plan to keep racking up miles keep your 2008. If you want a garage queen for long term ownership and Sunday drives pay up for a low mileage 2013.

Keep her and do the maintenance items as they come up. No use in getting a low mileage m3 regardless if it's a garage queen or not.

Kind of a "grass is greener" scenario. For all you know your 08 will run like a champ and the newer M3 might leave you in a world of hell.

If she's running good and you're happy (other than the high mileage and age), you should keep her

08’s were built better, the later cars had smaller cost cutting changes.

Lci the car out if you want it to feel different.

If your 08 is beat up from mileage and wear and tear it’s probably worth about $20k. If you just want a newer cleaner example spend $35k on a garage queen from someone who has parked his M3 to preserve it for the next owner and driven a beater everyday instead. Lots of people like that and their carscone up for sale regularly.

There are only two practical reasons to sell you car and move to a lower mileage example:

1 - You're not happy with your current color/combo/spec
2 - You current car is in rough overall condition

They all drive and look the same. So if not for either of the two above reasons, don't waist your time/money.

I have an 08 with some LCI upgrades. The car came from LA. Rarely saw rain. It's at 79,XXX miles. It's been so well taken care of. The interior looks brand new. I'm currently going through the car and refreshing bits here and there. Honestly, when I went to go look at E46 M3's a few years ago, there were so many that were above 110K-130K miles and commanding a premium. You still got a ways to go. It depends on how much you love the car. Me personally, I'll run my car as long as I possibly can. I wouldn't trade it in or sell it for an E92 with lower mileage. Keep it, enjoy it. If you hold onto it long enough, you'll see it start to appreciate.

I plan on daily driving my 09 e90, which is just about to hit 100k miles, for another year or so, so probably will hit 115 with peak driving then tail off to another secondary car.. I enjoy the hell out of it, but for some reason I can't stop obsessing about the miles I put on it daily... I'm getting BE bearings finished today, but hopefully I'll stop caring and enjoy it more and know that even at 120K miles or something it will still have long-term value...

As Jim Glickenhaus, famous Ferrari enthusiast said: "Not putting miles on your Ferrari is like not having sex with your girlfriend because you're saving her for the next guy."

Exactly. The money is already gone, I paid it, and I plan on enjoying every dollar of it. I have driven every car I owned at least 30k miles a year and my commute is maybe 15 minutes. I drive all of them until they break or until someone takes it from me via hitting it with a truck while I'm stopped (my last sports car lol).

I plan to drive my 08 until it needs upwards of 10-15k in repairs at once, and then probably get another one.

I think a lot of people here are a little delusional in the idea that all of these M3s are suddenly going to become an expensive collector car worth twice what they paid any time in the next 10 years. And again, if you want money out of buying a car, this was both a completely idiotic car to buy, and you picked one of the dumbest ways to make money.

Drive it and drive it well and maintain it well until it finally breaks. That's what BMW built it for.

I'd like to hear where he is getting this as well. Most people usually say skip first year models and buy the LCI's for the improvements and upgrades.

I have mine every time I drive it. And I don't have to say things like "I own a 2011.78695836 time period sedan!"

Girl: *Gets into your M3* "Nice M3! What year is it?"
You: "It's a 2008."
Girl: *Gets out* "Don't ever call me again!"

SFCM3:

Girl: "Nice M3! What year is it?"
SFC: "2011.75"
Girl: "That's soooooo hotttt....'

The girl will ditch the 2011.75 guy for a 2012 guy. I am glad I am already married since I have a 2008 and am not even sure what decimal point it is.
