Right right. Yes indeed.
This should indeed make a difference.

Yeah looks like they have made some progress and that's good to see. Heat load has got to be difficult to solve and jury is still out on whether they can deliver a reliable kit for the average Joe out there (me included). They have missed their original target for release in the fall of 2013 which says they clearly underestimated this challenge.
Keep at it Harrop ... hopefully by spring 2014 |

the m3 is out of production and this kit still isn't out. with competition deeply rooted in the market already who have a staggering advantage, i don't see this kit doing very well from a business perspective at the 12k price point. (which is what the harrop people told me the kit would cost at bimmerfest). that's not to say that the kit won't perform well from a hp standpoint - it may, it may not - but can this be a viable product?

I agree with the above post, with the m4 now just around the corner I suspect there will be a lot of used SC's flooding the market over the next 12-18months. VT2 kits will be coming in at prices lower then the $12,990 starting price for the Harrop.
At the same time, I also believe super chargers in general will come down in price simply because its no longer going to be the best product for the best car and the focus will move to the next generation. Anyone recall the starting prices for SC on the previous gen M3's? compared to the cost now. |

YES, the F3x M3 is coming out soon. Yes, it'll be a huge step forward being the first M3 (M4) to come FI from the factory, so hopefully with some basic mods we'll see some quality gains. BUT to even suggest that the marketplace for E9x M3 mods dying down is just the opposite. Let's not forget that superchargers only went mainstream in the second half of 2009, so we still haven't hit 5 full years of supercharged S65s. Another Parallel: E46 M3 Turbo Kits -- Prior to December 2012, the main E46 M3 turbo option was HPF. Low & behold, HPF went out of business April/May last year. But did anybody really mind? No, because in 2013 Saad Racing + Lab22 both released their own turbo kits, on the ProEFI & AEM Infinity EMS'. Don't wanna go standalone, that's fine, MaxPSI released their Stock DME kit last year as well. E46 M3 production ended in 2006, so about 6 years later the E46 M3 saw some of it's greatest advancements in aftermarket modifications. |

No one is disputing that there will be a market for modifications after the end of production of the e9x. That much I think we can all agree with. The issue we're debating here, is whether the price point will work (not only in light of the fact that production has ended, but also in light of the fact that there are already established competitors in the field, with a huge "first-to-market advantage" and with used kits readily available around 7k). My comments were not that Harrop's product will fail because its too late. My comments were that Harrop's SC is likely priced incorrectly given when it's being introduced, and given the competition.

The thing the Harrop has on EVERY kit available is that it'll be the only Positive Displacement supercharger available, which will be a LOT more fun on the street -- instant, slam you back in the seat TQ. The Centri's are great for the track where you can modulate the throttle, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the Harrop has More Area Under the Curve & Better 1/4 Mile Times (more power off the line and in the meat of the powerband). The only drawback I see, is if the boost they run to get similar HP numbers as the Centris generates too much TQ for it to be safe on the OEM rods, forcing them to limit the performance |
