If you don't get a separate GPS device that sends data x# of times per second back to your phone (I think 8x ps and above is enough) you get pretty inaccurate results.

I tried it at a DE in Sept, connected to my GoPro, and it seemed to work OK, though some of the GPS data was a bit misaligned with the map. It did provide good variety of data - throttle, brake, G forces, speed, RPM, etc. so that was pretty cool to use.
One challenging aspect, at least in my case, was that recording is started/stopped by pressing the iDrive knob, and at least twice during my sessions, my instructor must have accidentally bumped the knob since recording stopped :-( If you are going solo, then obviously not an issue.

I use it and it works great. The data it gives is great considering it's a free app. I have a GoPro Hero 5 Black. It works with my iPhone 4s in the snap in and my iPhone 8 plugged into the BMW media cable.
