Groaning/Squeaking Sound in Steering Wheel?
Hi all,
In the last two weeks or so, my car has developed a bit of a squeak in the steering wheel (sounds like rubber rubbing on something almost) that I can't seem to diagnose. For background, the car is a 2011 E92 M3 comp with 67k miles. The engine was recently out of the car following a puncture to the oil pan, so I'm wondering if there is any correlation. I opened the steering reservoir and it was on the low side (but still in between the max and min lines), so I topped that off with no impact on sound, though steering did lighten slightly after doing so. Here is a short clip to give a better idea: http://vimeo.com/manage/videos/819187183/privacy Last edited by jmeenach; 04-19-2023 at 11:19 AM.. |

Also - If there is a better place for me to be asking this question, please don't hesitate to let me know! I tried searching the forums in a couple areas, but I didn't find anything similar to my issue, so here we are

OK, so problem solved! I first tried moving the steering wheel position to no avail, but I tried it again, and the squeak has disappeared. The angle must've been just right (or wrong I guess), causing some additional friction. The main point is that I'm back to squeak-free steering!
