Add oil
Just got an alert at 8800 miles to "add a quart of oil as soon as possible". What type of oil should I add? And I wonder why I'm having to add oil at 8800 miles...

Get it at your local dealer and do not use anything other than that. Do not add the whole quart at once, pour half and check and if needed then add some more until you get it right. If you add the whole thing at once you might over fill it and that's not good either

OP get it where ever its cheaper...the price is usually about the same..so getting at the dealer may be just easier.
Re your question of why low..You have 8800 miles since last oil change..engines consume some oil...going with a 5k mile oil change interval is safer IMO Why?..Does the dealer add special magic to theirs?.. |

It also doesnt hurt to do a DIY oil change every 5k to 7.5k miles... the kit can be bought from tischer at getbmwparts.com. A link to how to do it is at http://www.billswebspace.com/bmwm3.htm

Thats not what I meant, I meant only OEM Castrol TWS. I figured OP needed it now so it's a lot easier to just go to the stealer and get it.

Is that the dealer that you were having the trouble with? They should always top it off or give you a free quart, part of the maintenance plan!
At my dealers they have pull through service bays for it and you don't even have to get out of the car. I always have them just give me a quart for each car though to keep in the trunk though. Hell they even gave me a BMW bag for it.

I now go to Rahal BMW, but they are too far out of the way for a top-off, so I don't know if they do it. I assume they do since they are supposedly one of the top service centers in the US. I just order my oil and always keep an extra quart in the trunk. Rahal has been great so far - been there for two services. They were more like "pit stops" in terms of time and efficiency. |
