My 08 M3 has the very old 080ee firmware so I have to update everything first before I can get a tune... so i have to go to the dealer to update all the systems... 6 hour job.

No need, ESS will provide a file to update along with your tune.

Its rare for a car not to have seen updates in 10 years. Can be done by independent with autologic in ~30 minutes.

Quick question: Is it safe to use stock cats for ESS DME that has been tuned to catless x pipe? I need to pass emissions test so I will be running this setup for a while.

It's fine. You'll need to return to the stock tune in order to pass emissions.

ESS Tune on my M3
Hey Tom. I sent an email to ESS 7 days ago. No response! I recently purchased a 2013 E92 M3 that has the ESS Tune, and wanted to know what the car has on it. Any help would be appreciated. Thx!

Happy to report the tune has been very reliable with catless x pipe + eisenmann race rear after multiple track days. Good power in lower rev range too, unlike the stock tune which would sometimes bog in 3rd gear.
