Very interesting...
Looks wise it is a copy / paste of the M3. Performance wise... Let me put it politely this way: We are going to see many M3 vs 1-series M threads... Stock for stock it will be close (ok depends on the circumstance of course), plus the 1M will have a greater modding upside. |

That car should not be called the M1.
It is a slap in the face to the original M1.

BMW M's direction has been making me sad lately, but then, BMW M goes where the market asks for BMW M to go.

Pricewise it would put it right about what I paid for my E90 M3....$54k. Great job BMW!
Oh BTW, First comment from the first link refering to the "angry" look, well those headlights will always look dopey not angry, no matter what bumper you put on the car!

Why? It'll probably be faster than the original M1!

they should put our high revving V8 in the M1... now that would be an exotic!! in the current market, there are no compact cars with a size similar to the 1 series that have a V8... so it would blow the competition out of the water... bmw needs to do something special.

If we are considering all factors, the mere existence of the X5/X6 under the M brand is a greater atrocity to the original M vehicle - the M1 - than simply reusing its name on what will almost surely be a very capable little car. They have already "gone there" so to speak, so let's not concern ourselves some obscure sanctity to a couple of letters. You may notice people seem to be pretty in favor of the M1 name in the BP poll. I think BMW will go with M1. |

I don't know if I like the idea of a turbo six low revving car for an M series.
They really have to do this one right starting with the power delivery If anything at least it means there's an M car in the lineup that will get over 20mpg again |

What's the point of this car? I mean, the 135i already has a TT six in it and it produces a respectable 300hp for a car that small. With only 50hp more, will the M1 be "all that and a bag of chips" and make someone want to buy it over a regular 1 series? I don't don't 50hp, a tuned suspension and a body kit is going to be enough to make people want to buy it for whatever BMW decides to sell it for. And since it's essentially the same motor as in the 135i but with a few mods to it, I don't the 1 series crowd will see it as being better than the regular 1.
Just my 0.2

The other thing is that it will be priced around the same level as an E92 335i, so if you really do not need the added room and like the performance- Why not? -M
