No oil level reading

Can someone help me understand how to get a bloody oil reading out of this car, changed the oil, ran it for a while, let it sit and then tried to get a reading - nothing. Next day try again - nothing. Wtf!

Hold on to the BC stalk to reset your oil levels. A few tries should get your oil level readings.

As long as you put in 8.5 quarts you should not worry. It will eventually show a reading.

Lets go back to the basics here. Are you letting the car completely get to operating temp? If you're in nyc/nj (its been cold here!), it will take at least ten+ miles before its hot enough for a read.

Manually initiating an oil read through the BC button will not work, unless you're warmed up

It will only measure when cars at temperature too.. I always measure how much comes out of it when I change mine. That way you know how much to put in without concern..

I believe it has to be on flat ground as well. So if you have been driving up or down hills it will take longer to display.

its must be because oil level readings are a scam by backstreet mechanics to scare people into changing their oil.

Doesn't know how to get an oil reading on an e9x M3. Check.

Self proclaimed engine building expert with enough knowledge to be able to claim the S65 does not have any rod bearing issues. Check.

Complete moron. Check.

After oil change, in my experience, it takes much, much longer than just coming to normal temp to get a first reading. I've given up on getting one right after and just drive the first day, check on second trip or next day.

As long as I know what I put in I'm not worried about it for 10-30 miles.

8Qt or 7.6L is under-filled.

S65 oil capacity is 8.8L or 9.3Qt. If you let it drain fully and get the oil out of the filter housing properly, then put in 8.8L and forget about it.

Cheers,

It will take longer for you to get a reading sitting there idling as oil takes forever to get to temp @ idle speeds.

Car won't give you a proper reading until it hears you admit it needs rod bearings
