Having said that, I have considered doing it at one point, make a road trip to Cali and replace the RB while there. After factoring in gas, food, accommodation...etc, the cost for RB job adds up rather quick. Here is a crazy idea though. If you get enough interest, it might be cheaper to just fly the guy up here and do the work. I know there are plenty of shops in town that rent out their hoist and space. Let's say you get four people each pitch in around $1500. $6000 total, minus $500 or so for flight, the guy will still make $5500 in a weekend. Of course the only issue with this idea is there isn't a whole lot you can do if he screws up, ie. the motor blows shortly after the guy is back in Cali. I know most of the guys there. Tommy is the owner and he is very knowledgeable. But ask for Lowell, he is one of the tech there who have done the job before.

I’m approaching 50,000 kms and have an extended warranty until August 2019 so not sure about when I would get this service performed on my car. |

In addition to the bearings and rod bolts, you'll need new oem oil pan gasket, oil line o-rings, a few misc. seals, new oil and oil filter kit (drain bolt washers and seal). Not sure what the total is as I got my in-law at Brian Jessel to place the order for me. I can PM you the final price when I get it but online price came out to just under $100us before shipping without the oil. If your extended warranty is with BMW and you have a good relationship with your dealer then perhaps you could wait??? All depends how much you believe there is a rod bearing issue. If your extended warranty is with a 3rd party then it depends on their coverage in the fine print and may affect your decision?? In my case, the BMW warranty has ended and I only have 3rd party extended warranty. However that coverage is not cut and dry, for starter I have to pay a deductible and I can get my money back at the end of the warranty period if I don't make any claims. So I weighted out my options and decided to change mine since I do plan on keeping the car long term. |

RG says they get their parts from Turner, so if you cant get them from BMW they can get it for you.

When you guys get your bearings done post up some pictures of the old ones on this thread. I’m going to get mine done while the car is still under warranty but will probably be spring time 2019.
