Individual Audio Wiring Question...

Hey Guys...Does anyone know what the rear Individual Audio tweeters have going on for filtering (capacitor(s)?) inline in the wiring?

They have (3) wires at the plug and appear to have (2) capacitors under shrinktube.

I have a pair of tweeters, and apparently they are from the front, no inline filtering, and a 2-pin plug. I have a pair of mid-ranges and they have (1) female 2-pin and (1) female 3-pin.

I need to do some creative wiring and would love if you guys have the info to rig-this-up. Figure I will just solder everything, as necessary...although I hate to remove the factory (HiFi) harness male plug (coming from the amp)...I want to do this with what I have on hand (plus some caps).

TIA

No.

Are you offering pictures of the wiring harness and the values of the caps (and/or inductor)?

Yes, please.

I'm still not able to follow you on the point with 3 leads to the tweeters.

Found this pic of the E9x tweeters: http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/...Qqn/s-l225.jpg

And this of the external xover: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/att...1&d=1194502429

It is a 12db/oct filter but nothing is of high quality and can easily be replaced by aftermarket std filters. With components of this quality the replacement by high quality parts also alters the functions, so a 1:1 replacement is not possible without a meassurement.
In other words, you can use any online tool to calculate the parts needed for a crossover of 3000Hz and build it with parts you buy and solder together yourself.

At this point, I may just use these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...A1THAZDOWP300U

Crossover should be ~4k.

BTW...If you blow up that first picture, you will see that there are 3 pins on the plug...3 wires go up to the shrink tube, and then 2 (+/-) to the tweeter itself. Probably a cap and an inductor inside the shrink.

hi

use this instead: https://www.amazon.com/Crossover-CRX...udio+crossover

offer better protection and most likely also better impedance match.

I can only see 2 wires on my 11.8 screen w 300% zoom.
but there are no use for a 3. wire in a first order xover.

It's a 3-wire set-up, trust me.

I gave-in and ordered a pair of plug-n-play tweeters off eBay.

So now I have a pair of plain 'ol IA tweeters, sitting here, lonely.

My luck continues...Seller "couldn't find" the tweeters in their inventory (Euro salvage yard)...back to square one.

Hi Mark,

Super luck you got there....

I found these on eBay in Germany.

http://www.ebay.de/itm/BMW-E90-E91-E...MAAOSwImRYLEd2

And - the 3. cable is a return for the midrange, as you see in the pictures there are only 2 cables going to the driver itself.

Let me know if I can help you!

// Chris

^^^Thanks, but that's more than I paid for the (4) pieces...

I'll probably either, a) Eventually use those cheap crossovers that I listed above, or b) Buy some OE, MBQuart, of Focal coaxials...but that's another $120-250.

You could just use the Logic 7 versions they have the same ohms, size and connector.

Or you can just use the e63 rear tweeters as well, they will fit the hole.

9 times out of 10, breakers leave the tweeters in the door cards as well as the other speakers covers as they don't want holes in the cards when they sell interiors.

I can tell you that the individual speakers are way way better than pretty much thing out there, certainly the focal, rainbow and mbquart options.
