e92 2010 rear blind retrofit

Hi all,

i've installed a rear electric rear blind this morning and followed the retrofit guide.

Ive used NCSexpert to change the VO to include $415 (rear blind), the car now "knows" that it has one installed, (checked vo in ista-d, Ive reset the JBB module (via an empty MAN file).

The button lights up but does not operate the blind, i've put it up manually (powered it via a light connector), so I know the blind works.

Do I need to process *all** the modules for it to work? its a proper retrofit as I have the bmw install guide, so it should be possible.

Do I need to use ista-p and use the retrofit options?

Installed the Tv and coded and that works perfectly, again used NSCexpert to add the TV to the VO. (again its seen when the vo is read out).

Will be doing the heated seats and Individual audio install as well soon.

Anyone have any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

John

You need a new JBE. I searched high and low and was pulling my hair out on this retrofit as well. I was only able to get it to work with a new JBE.

PM me. I will give you the email of whom I got the new JBE from

You should PM OP your MAN file so he can try it. NCSExpert will not use it if it's wrong. I think it's a coding issue guys.

The blind needs and extra set of relays in the jbbr to trigger/power the blind motor.

I suspect that a convertible jbbr will also work (as it has the extras), but I bought an M version of the JBBR and once coded to the car (with my dump), it worked straight away.

I assume when you say JBBR(?) you mean JBE. (Junctionbox Elektronik)

It is curious as BMW (realoem) doesn't identify any differences in the Junction Box 3 electronics and lists the same # JBE for all 3 series including the E93 (and Z4, X1, E81 also). I can confirm this as well in the cars I have dismantled. They all have the same JBE module- coupes, convertibles, and even coupes with the rear shade. So on the surface there appears to be nothing unique to the H3 modules. The pre-LCI modules (H1) I would definitely imagine there being differences...

I wonder if there is maybe the off chance that something was damaged in your old module...

Yes. under the glovebox.

Indeed you are correct and this is very annoying as getting the right unit is a nightmare.

They look the same, but are different inside.

If you dismantle, selling the jbbr with the blind would be the best option as it will work.

Agreed, I ended up trying 4 variants before I got the right one.

Its possible, But I doubt it, my old one was an L1 unit but that did not work and would never work as I opened it up and it was missing 3 sets of relays.

The M version has all relays populated.

I suspect that an H3 unit (lci vert), has the right amount, as its a config option for either lockable glovebox OR rear blind.

I guess the point of my post was to point out that in my experience all of the H3 units are the same internally. I know H3 JBE units are not strictly specific to the vert as they've come in every LCI 3 series I've ever dismantled (quite a few now). The H1 units are definitely different internally and wouldn't support this retrofit.

Just contributing my experiences. I didn't have to replace the JBE when I did a retrofit. The coupe's original H3 JBE accepted it just fine.

Its all good mate, finding info on doing the blind retrofit is slim, so it all helps

Wish I'd known you were a dismaler when I got mine!!!

Hi John,

does the Install guide mention the software update?

No, but i'd only do an update if the module does not work, and it won't on a L1 even with an update.
