Electric hydraulic steering pump
I'm planing to install Electric hydraulic steering pump(EHPS pump) instead of stock pump.
As I know stock pump of S65 engine is only mechanical pump and has no CAN control wiring, so many of race cars based on S65 engine are using EHPS pump, Benz A-class pump, Opel Astra pump and etc. Which EHPS pump is the best pump? And how about feeling on track? If someone has information and experience, plz give me some advice ~ |

My M is under construction for track only car. the Goal of Removing P/S pump and A/C compressor is for increasing engine response and weight saving. M24 use A-class pump, may be. |

i see. i don't have any experience, but i've asked m24 about them just because i was curious. they stated the biggest benefit is getting rid of the a/c and ps pump for a freer running engine. other than that, i don't know.

Okay
Been talking to m24. Hesitant to pull the trigger as I'm not sure the install time required to get this done and I don't want it to be a crazy thing to do. Has anyone done this? They sell the kit so it has me believe that people have. But I can't find anything. I have done the upgraded cooler and bigger BW reservoir tank and I still get over heating. Thanks.

Can you keep us posted with costs, the install and performance? This isn't for me at this time, but I enjoy learning about this stuff.

It is replacement pump not a rack or anything like that. Basically allows to delete the ac and ps pumps and take parasitic drag off the engine. Cost thru far has been $1400 for the pump and bracket and shipping. Expose to be plug n play so we shall see. My guess is 3-5 hrs depending. Will keep an update here. Adam

i've always wondered if there is any benefit to having lower weight pulleys. same size (not underdrive), just less weight.

Don't think that will solve the problem of the high rpm and pressure build up on track. Street driving probably no difference in performance.

Yea I don't think it would help with any device performance wise, but each pulley has to have some momentum to it whether it powers something or just provides tension. Getting each pulley spinning has got to have some kind of drain, but maybe minimal.

Hi guys,
I'm running this setup in my car. With ac deleted too. Main savings is weight on the front end and a more responsive engine. Also we have used a Mercedes pump. This keeps costing down quite significantly too!

The MB pump has 3 wires, positive, negative, and a low amperage signal(+) wire. Don't forget to install a ~50A(I can't remember exactly) maxi or similar fuse/holder(I think it's 6ga wire).

You will find that the Marc setup I have installed is more responsive too. Taking out the mechanical slack on the belts means the steering doesn't feel as loose
