What does the throttle Sport, Sport Plus really do ?

Greetings,

Ok, before I torched for not looking or searching for this I did - But found nothing

So when you enable the Sport and Sport Plus mode of the throttle, what does it do ? I get it likely changes the throttle map logarithmically - I think ?

It makes the pedal response way, way to jumpy and jerky at low speeds or starting from full stop. But, if I can launch properly the Sport Plus mode seems to make my rear tires slip and smoke up - which is possibly not a bad thing.

Any experts on this ? Thanks in advance

I guess you are asking if they are using specific algorithm for the throttle mapping? I do not think there is just one algorithm in place. My thinking is that they define mapping specifically for each mode for each gear to change the way it feels when we drive it. Take a look here - if I'm reading it right as the result engine torque line is different for each gear in different modes.

My undersrtanding is that each level requires less pedal input to give you more throttle response as you progress from regular to sport plus. This is consistent with what I experience.

It's been covered several times:

It just increases throttle response by increasing throttle position sensitivity. It doesn't add any power whatsoever. For example, what normally would be 40% throttle would be 70% throttle with the "power" button on.

The sport+ throttle option is awful. It just gives it an overly aggressive map which makes it hard to modulate. I find comfort a bit lazy for spirited driving with too much dead space in the middle, sport is a nice center ground and feels the most linear (linear is good!), sport+ is a mess.

For the M2 its even worse, comfort / sport / sport+ throttle are not individually configurable. So for example on the M2 you cant have Sport Throttle, Sport steering, MDM mode. For MDM you have to be in Sport+. BMW really cheaped out there.

always find it funny when friends get into my car and ask "why wouldn't you press the power button"?

such a misleading button label...

I can't stand the default throttle behavior, you practically have to fully floor it to get the car to do anything. I was very excited to find you can set it to start up in sport as pressing the button every time gets old.

each to his own... i prefer the normal setting feel it's more linear and easier to modulate...

i must have changed the M mode to include Sport plus throttle...
it's great if i'm just stomping on the gas
but if i'm just trying to semi-accelerate, the car gets jerky and doesn't like it

definitely going to change the settings and see how i like the other options

Sport plus throttle is awesome! It's the worst in traffic but when you wanna play, no other setting should be considered. It's sad when sport plus no longer scares you and you want more. The feeling of "this feels jerky" is a lack of user input and not a shortcoming of the cars programing or equipment.

It's a lack of user input because sport+ lacks the total input range of the normal mode...Causing the jerkiness. Sport+ is good if you have a lazy foot. Normal mode gives you more resolution.

Normal -> Sport -> Sport+ -> on/off switch

Yes, exactly. sport+ absolutely makes things worse. Yes, it's more fun when you're mashing things like an on/off switch, but otherwise it leaves you with much less room to modulate the throttle.
