Help with code 5A53

Does anyone know what code 5A53 stored in ECU refer to other than meaning "DCT overheat" ?

I have searched online with not much result other than DCT overheat and whoever had these codes needed DCT gearbox replacement.

Any help would be appreciated!

You may want to provide some additional context on the code. What were you doing at the time? Was the transmission exhibiting any other odd behaviors? Did the code return once you cleared it? What's the car's maintenance history?

Without the right context, this is akin to going to your doctor and saying your foot hurts but nothing else.

That being said, the M-DCT is fickle at times. If you clear the code and it doesn't return, and the transmission is behaving normally, you can probably ignore it.

That doesn't mean the fluid level isn't low.

Also, see my earlier post -- you need to provide more info for us to try and help. It's not our job to play 20 questions with you.

Bro, take it easy. I am just providing info as I go as I don't know know how to troubleshoot this problem.

If there was a leak, I would have noticed it and made sense to add fluid however, if there is no leaks. Where did the missing fluid go? I don't believe transmission drinks oil as engine does

Per my original post:

What were you doing at the time?
Was the transmission exhibiting any other odd behaviors?
Did the code return once you cleared it?
What's the car's maintenance history?

These are the basics for anyone to provide meaningful help. Shouldn't take more than a minute or two to provide this. Otherwise it's just a lot of random guesses being thrown out, which drives me nuts. Diagnosing problems is NOT guesswork.

Answers inline:

What were you doing at the time? Driving like any other day. Closer to redline
Was the transmission exhibiting any other odd behaviors? Not really
Did the code return once you cleared it? It returned once
What's the car's maintenance history? I don't have maintenance history of the car. I am 3rd owner.

If the code is returning then there is likely an issue.

Hopefully someone proficient BMW TIS can look up the diagnostic procedure for that exact code.

I had that happen the dct overheating error , drove the other day to gas station at night and got the error after getting gas , annoying . I got that error on 90 degree day in traffic with ac on .so I just replace the dct oil thermostat http://www.bimmerworld.com/Cooling/O...9X-M3-DCT.html drove it the other day to work no issues yet .

I will report will drive car soon again . Not my daily . Fix was easy just jack up car , remove dct cover and unbolt lines and thermostat off dct on drivers side . Barely leaked .

I would definitely do this if this if it fixes the problem. Please report back once you get to drive it more. How often was your car throwing the code?

When I run AC in traffic twice, cold starts once and short driving once . Never during high speed driving .
