King Bearings

Anyone have experience with ceramic coated King Bearings?

I've had the car for over five years and I am finally succumbing to the hype.

I've got a shop that I have 100% trust in and they want to install these and I had not heard of them, just BE and ARP.

Any input?

They are used mostly for N54 engines (335i group). While I haven't heard anything bad, I don't know of anyone using those for an S65 engine.

Caveat emptor.

I believe Troy Jeup (BMW M5 engine builder) uses King bearings.

This gives me a certain level of comfort, if I were still in Houston I would make the drive up there.

That's exactly what I did when I lived in Houston. I made the drive

The only issue you would have is a blown up engine. So, that's good!

Were they on your stroker when it failed?

My highly trusted indy shop recommended King bearings. They use them on E46 / E9x rod bearing jobs.

But I purchased a BE / ARP set from a forum member and had them installed at the same place.

Highly reputable shop in Phoenix is recommending using King bearings also. I will follow their advice at the end of the month.

Kings bearings are used in Koenigsegg engines, my local shop backs them 100%, will be getting mine in when they have in stock.

King bearing is a very reputable. I would have gotten them over BE if they came into the s65 game a few years earlier. But I’m not saying BE is bad or subpar by any means.

KING is an industry leader- quality is top tier and we use them in S65's all the time, especially for main bearings. BE bearings (made by Clevite) are the gold standard because their clearances are ideally arranged for these S65 journals. King may only require a little extra effort by the installer to measure and match together a set since they're sold in pairs only. BE are already hand measured and ready to go out of the box.

This is where the question begins and ends for me. BE are the gold standard. Why use anything else (short of a long-term inability to source BE bearings)? Too much at stake to use anything other than the gold standard here.

Some owners are cost conscious or brand loyal. Historically, BE has also suffered supply issues where they've been unobtainable for months. I'd much prefer to install KING, VAC, or ACL than do nothing at all, and that's why our shop offers those options. As far as the engine is concerned, it doesn't care what brand bearings are installed if they're properly sized for the journal. BE has simplified things for installs that need a no questions asked plug and play solution.

Any of these options are considered a solution that would likely outlast the rest of the engine.
