I reached out to stabilus NA. Here is their reply.

“Hello,
You can purchase this part from Oreilly Autoparts.

PN ST016717”

Might be worth a shot.

Looked quickly, says not available in store (nearest store is in CT for me so not even feasible) and not available to ship.

Wonder if I'd have better luck finding a stupid dealer parts guy to give me the OEM M3 ones for E9x prices

I tried the approach of using one 330n strut and it seems to be ok. The car hasn't tried to eat me yet and the force to close doesn't seem like I'm going to snap the hood in half.

Will sell the other one if anyone wants it or I'll just return it.

Hey guys, I am still trying to fine these as well. I am currently in Germany, but can order from Germany, UK, or most other countries in Europe, and from the United States as well. If anyone has a good link for ones that fit in any of these countries, please post. I have found one or two in Germany but they are either out of stock or they are the 300 type for the regular 3 series. They are labeled correctly, just the sales person didn't know they will not fit perfectly. I prefer to get the prefect ones if I can find them. thanks in advance.

Hey everyone, I found this one at O'reilly stores are back in stock. Did anyone get them, and know if they are good fit? I want to order them, but need to know first.

I tried order the ones from England (https://www.autodoc.co.uk/stabilus/8566382), but they are out of stock now, and it's easier for me to get them from the States. Thanks

Hey all, new member here, owner of an E90M. Located in Houston.

So to clarify, these below parts are correct (albeit pricey @ $67/each)?

--
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...m3-51237900795
--
or
--
https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...E&KeepHeader=Y
--

I don't mind spending the cash if they send me the right part, no hassles. From what I'm reading, all the cheaper options are basically a result of incorrect cross-referenced catalog numbers.

The genuine bmw part, if listed for the m3, should be correct. If you get a 330nm strut it is incorrect. There have been a few mix-ups for sure.

I'm going to my local O'reilly's tomorrow. Website says they have them in stock. I'll reply tomorrow to confirm if they have the proper pressure.

Seems based on the 3x premium they should be right, but when I called Pelican a few months ago they had the same PN for $18 and I got the 330n strut and after calling them they had no obvious knowledge of the difference and at the time it wasn't worth returning a $18 part for $10.

I ended up ordering from Pelican and left in the order notes to not send me any catalog substitutes because there is a known issue of mis-cataloged 330N version in the E90M catalog (i.e. BMW P/N ending in xx050), and only send exact OEM part ending in xx795.

Edit: Pelican ended up sending me the exact part I needed.

I feel like I just acquired a rare pokemon. 200N from O'Reilly's. $17.99. They could only order one, and told me I should wait a couple weeks to see if the warehouse receives another one.

Yeah I don’t really understand that choice when he could have ordered from FCP at that price and had the next set free. I ordered a set from O’Reilly for 38 bucks I think. Should arrive Monday. I wanted to see if my earlier advice from Stabilus was correct so we will see what arrives.

Update: Sorry for the reply a few days late work has been nuts, but the ones from O'Reilly, part number from Stabilus NA are correct. 200NM and exact length. I just took one out to side by side with the E9X M3 (bmw branded) Stabilus struts. It's worth the money. $38 a set vs $140 something..

I have some information to add which I don't see anywhere in this thread or forum. The ones already on my car were 51238056705 (but keeps coming up as 41618056705 in RealOEM) which is apparently a 380N? It's marked "E92/93M3FKL-A" and dated 07/2017.

As per this thread I decided to replace it with the recommended Stabilus 016717 (aka 51237900795, 200N). Nothing was wrong with the old ones, just preventative maintenance.

Honestly, I don't like it as much and I might reinstall the old one. The new ones feels like they're barely holding the hood up, and the old ones raised up the hood "just right" and didn't feel too strong either. RealOEM lists my old one as an alternative part number.

If I had to guess, it supersedes the recommended 200N part.

Thoughts on this? If anyone local wants it, I'll sell this new set for $30. I don't feel like returning it.

That's so odd and adds even more questions to the hood strut confusion. Thanks for posting this. Why would a 2012/13 car with the same aluminum hood require a 380nm gas strut? Is it the same hood and lift points? I thought the 330 was way too strong.
