Cigarette lighter sockets are only "on" when engine is on?

Thoroughly annoyed that the cigarette lighter sockets are only on when the engine is on. I have one of those air compressors that fill up tires and whatnot using a cigarette lighter adapter. I even tried putting the key in the ignition, no engine start, and still no power. Is there a DIY out there that can keep these on without starting the engine? Thanks in advance.

Nevermind. I found the answer. Press start button twice.
