Question Which 65"+ 4K TV?

I'll be buying a 65" or larger 4K TV at some point during the upcoming holiday sales. I'm unsure if I'll get the best bang for my buck with someone like the Samsung 6300, Vizio M or P series or one of the LG models. I'm looking to keep it around $1k.

HOWEVER, looks like the Samsung MU8000 65" is on sale for $1,300 & the Sony 70" KD70X690E for $1,200. Would I be better served buying one of these instead? I am not willing to spend more so don't suggest more expensive TVs.

I will be coming from a 50" Plasma Samsung

I don’t know much about TV models, but for what it’s worth, 3 of my buddies who know a LOT more about TV’s than I do bought the 8000 series Samsung’s. They tried convincing me too, but I cheaped out and got a 6000 series for like $400 shipped last year lol

The 8000 series Samsung is good, I myself, went with the LG 8500 series (75" though). The 65" for 2017 has the nano cell technology as well which is nice.

The LG will be around $1300 or less around Black Friday as well I bet.

I have a Samsung 46" 8000 series 2012 model. Best Samsung TV I have had. I paid $700 shipped back in 2012. Model is below. I dont think this model is available unless used but this particular model is better than newer models nowadays.

https://www.crutchfield.com/S-MkcVG3...UN46D8000.html

Few months ago I was planning to buy one but I hold off. But the model I was gonna buy was the Samsung UN65KS8000 65-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2016 Model) This is even better than 2017 according to TV experts reviews.

If you care about best TV ever made in the last 15 yrs, its the Pioneer Plasma Elite made in Japan. I still have it and working like a charm. These are not longer in production. Cheers!

OLED

But if on a budget get Vizio M65-E0. Supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

You will be happy with the 65mu8000. Go to avsforum lcd section owner’s thread for preferred settings. The main thing is to turn off eco-mode!

If you want to spend more than $1k, the Sony 65” x900e is $1500 right now at Best Buy and Amazon. Better than the Samsung you have listed. If you are stuck around the $1k budget, M65-E0 is the way to go.

I agree with the post above the Sony X900E is worth the extra money. If you wanna spend less the vizio M series.

Being on a budget i ended up getting the Vizio E series from Sam's Club as they had a 1 day sale last week where i picked up the 70" for $848 from the original $1299. for their E series it's actually a pretty good 4k tv compared to their better M and P series lineup. Paired it with the Sony UBP-X800 4K player and this thing's a BEAST! i just got an email from Sam's that this same TV is on sale for $948 this weekend

Nice TV, just No HDR quality or 120 refresh rate, plus edge lit, but best bang for the buck if you have to get into a 4k TV. Entry level will be impressive but will not stand the test to a middle or even higher end 4k TV and differences can be seen. Just don't look at more expensive ones Id get the Sony 70" KD70X690E for value and performance

I have the Sony 70" KD70X690E in my garage and its a great TV for the price, Motion blur and HDR imagery are solid! SONY will out perform the Samsung, but the Samsung build quality seems more solid. But picture is what matters, I'd get the Sony, think I paid 2300$ in Jan, so 1200 is cheap

Dolby Vision, HDR and Dolby Atmos are all new this year, expect prices under $500 for the same tv next year.

All I can say is f*ck Samsung, great technology but shitty quality. Exploding phones and washing machines are another Samsung breakthrough. Had a Samsung plasma TV, great picture but didn’t even last 5 years before one of the circuit boards went bad. I replaced the board and within 6 months board went bad again. Threw remote at screen and destroyed TV. Went out and bought a LG OLED and have been extremely happy with the excellent picture.

OLED all the way or anything but Samsung.

Agreed, have had a couple of Samsung televisions and they have been great whilst they lasted, which is not long.

We are slightly disadvantaged with price down here, a series 9 Samsung is about $4K.

I’m sick of paying that amount for a television that only last a couple of years so I have just bought a Hisense 75 inch for less than half the price of the Samsung.

Whilst I cannot comment on the longevity as yet the picture quality is fine by me.

Curious to see how that brand holds up?
