What size winter tires for stock 18" 220m wheels ?
Hey guys, I am going to purchase winter tires soon for my stock 19" 220m wheels. I was planning on going with the Blizzak LM-60's, if I cant find the right size then ill go with the next best. What I needed to know is what size tires should I be getting ? Can you guys give me a range of sizes for both front and back.
Thanks in advance ! Last edited by NYC M3; 10-04-2012 at 12:02 PM.. |

Go with stock tire sizes....? The thinnest I'd go would be 235/35/19 front and 255/35/19 rear.

Narrower is better for the snow but you end up with a lower profile and less rim protection from curbing. Both of which are bad. It's a balance and each approach has trade off's but I would go with 245/35 or 255/35 in the front and 255/35, 265/35, or 275/35 in the rear. My suggestion will happen to look better too. I don't like the site of narrower than stock tires on an M3. You live in NYC which sees snow but isn't it limited to only a few days out of the year? If that is the case, I would definitely go with the bigger tire sizes.

I literally have that exact setup on my 220's. snow performance is amazing - it is like driving a tractor and can get me through just about anything until clearance is an issue, and even then I've made it through some deep snow. however, if I had to do it again, I would go with either stock (245/265) or stock-plus (255/275) sizing purely for the cosmetics. Sure the performance won’t be quite as good in deep snow as the skinnier setup like I have (235/255), but they will look much better. The detrimental appearance of slightly shorter and slightly skinnier tires are easy to notice for guys like us that troll these forums. Unless you lived in a remote area of Canada that’s not always plowed and depended on your M3 every day, you can afford to give up the minor difference in performance. Snow tires make such an incredible difference in any size. You’ll be fine – my suggestion is to go for 245 in front and 265 in rear.

The Dunlop Winters do not come in 265/35-19 nor 245/35-19. Is there a good similar snow tire (one that is still somewhat sporty and not a true dedicated snow tire) that does?

yeah that is what I was searching for, so I have no choice but to get 235/35 and 255/35. Would it not be good for winter driving in NYC? or would it just be best to go with another brand ?
