Offer or Pass?

Buddy is in the market for an M3 and we found this car

http://www.cosmomotorsonline.com/det...-17415946.html

Should we make a good offer or pass and if we make an offer, what do you guys think is a "good" (not fair) deal for this car? The miles is a little high so we would want a better than fair deal.

We are planning to change out the rod bearings on day 1 and we know how to do thermostat/Actuators on our own.

With that in mind, what else tend to start going wrong on these high mileage m3's? Should we take this car with an offer or pass it up?

I prefer to buy enthusiast cars private party. You want to make sure you're buying an m3 that was well taken care of. Otherwise you'll be stuck with expensive repairs.

That's a desirable combination. I'd take the VIN to your dealership service counter and have them pull the car's history (warranty claims & maintenance work). If the car was serviced regularly, and wasn't in for constant warranty work, those are good signs.

The mileage isn't ridiculous for a car that was probably sold in late 2010. That works out to about 11k/year, which is slightly below the national average.

Theres a carfax link on that dealers page. 2 owners, clean history, lots of maintenance. I say if it looks good in person, yer good to go.

What would be a good price to offer for this car?

Not sure, look at what other cars of similar age and mileage are selling for. Maybe come in at $24k but meet in the middle?

Do dealerships provide this info for free to whoever asks? I never take my car back to the dealer for work except recalls.

I've never had a problem doing it. They'll typically redact the owner information but otherwise have never hesitated to give me a print-out. I just walk in during an off-peak time when the service advisors are less likely to be slammed with customers and paperwork.

I never had success doing that. I always get rejected by SA claiming it has previous owner information.
