1) Can you comfortably reach the navigation screen in an E9x while driving?

I mean, it's possible, but it's going to be awkward as hell.

2) Have you used CarPlay through a non-touch interface?

I've used BMW and Audi CarPlay a decent bit. (MY2019 and 2020 loaners/rentals.) CarPlay through idrive style controllers is incredibly clunky.

3) CarPlay hides notifications. No thanks. That's not helpful.

That's a good point that a touch screen in an e9X would be a pain in the ass. Here is a demo of one working. The iDrive wheel is probably better.

FYI, some guys with single hump but no M-Drive are having difficulties on retrofitting the MDM. I guess that iDrive is essential for the MDM? Please be careful not to lose your M-Drive function.

Haven’t had any issues using CarPlay through the iDrive controller. Mostly using the controller in our new X3 for CP too.

iDrive is required to modify MDM configurations. iDrive is NOT required to have MDM. I believe that you can manually code different MDM configurations, but that only matters if you have EDC.

Mine is a factory no-NAV, MDM car. Euro MDM is is where it's at.

That's what I currently have, euro MDM, coded by Alpinemss.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the “no I drive” guys who are retrofitting mdm on there cars are having a problem with the radio settings on there car where it changes source every time you press the “m button” on steering wheel. Small issue in my opinion, but of course a little annoying. They report that everything else works fine though.

That's a coding issue. A factory no idrive MDM car doesn't do that. (Although I have been having that issue since the "self-coding" mobridge enabled itself. )

Ok, in my case, I currently have IDrive, Navi, MDM, EDC from the factory. I am trying to retrofit into my car single hump, no idrive. Do you think i will encounter this problem with the M button on steering wheel? Because i am reading the the GTS works perfectly fine, no idrive and mdm from factory.

Good luck and sub'd for pics before, during and after if you make the swap.
Good call on the A/C evaporator when i did the dash swap it needed to be replaced and my car only had 35k miles on it. So far so good on the swap i believe, I believe mdm and edc still work. Only thing i need to figure out is the M button on steering wheel as it is now a source button for radio.

considered going single hump, but having the Android/Apple carplay unit integrated into single-hump? I was considering going that route as I also have double hump CIC and wanted a cleaner look

The below the line head units are even worse than the hump. The "cut a hole in the dash" head units don't look better than the hump, and then you've really butchered the car.

I hate looking at NAV, but I would not do that.

Did anyone ever get this done and fix all the MDM and M Button issues?

There seems to be quite a thirst to go single hump in the US, something not happening in the UK, whats the rationale behind it, as these cars get older, OEM and originality becomes more important, and whats wrong with the double hump and the nice screen?

It's not that anything is "wrong" with it per se…but the single hump interior will age more gracefully and never feel dated by older technology, hence the increased desirability.

Once they switched to idrive 4, things improved, but anything older than idrive 5 feels prehistoric by modern infotainment standards.

This trend is retarded,

I retrofitted NBT Evo into my M3 and its on par with all the technology I need including front/rear cameras, carplay, VIM, etc.

I have no idea why anyone would want a flat dash, i've had several E90s with no idrive and its not that good. I would take a car with CCC over a car with no idrive.

I have to agree, I would not buy an M3 without the Sat Nav system it looks much better! Mine has the CIC and Individual Audio and it all works just fine!

How much was the NBT Evo retrofit?

Singlehump is considerably cheaper.
