My favorite tire setup yet: 275/35 and 275/40-18 PSS

Been wanting to try this for a while and picked it up on a trial basis thinking if I didn't like the setup I would run them in the off months. But I think I'm going to run these on my light enkeis too or maybe get a set of volks for my light wheels. 9.5" volks all around would drop like 30lb of weight and still look rad. My current light wheels are 18x10 et25 and have never been totally happy with how much sticks out in front that last 1/2" is a little too racy for my car which is primarily a daily driver, and I like the look of the 9.5 et23 better up front. PSS don't run all that wide do it works well. Interestingly the 275/40 is slightly wider on the same wheel than the 275/35

Suspension is ZCP springs stock shocks dinan camber plates and 5lb of extra dirty dirt. Wheels are 9.5" 219M all around

Nice setup. I thought 275/40 are only available in bmw "star" spec pss. Did you happen to measure the tread width? I remember bmw "star" spec pss usually has much narrower tread width than their non-star spec counterparts, and they are also SL instead of XL.

Tire Rack only lists one 275/40-18 part number for PSS and that's the OEM BMW part, these were F8x take-offs. They do not have stars on the sidewall, though I understand some of them do. BMW F8x PSS are no longer XL tires so far as I can tell, the car is lighter enough to obviate the need apparently. 95Y front, 99Y rear stock F8x load ratings, vs. E9x at 97Y front/101y rear stock

They are slightly wider, less than 5mm per tire, when mounted on the same wheel, than the 275/35-18. The 275/35-18 I purchased is the "regular" part and not the Cadillac ATS-V rear tire, which is a special tire molded at 8.5/32" instead of 10 and using a slightly different construction.

Reviving this thread. I was wondering if your opinion on this has changed over time. I currently have a 219m square wheel setup and deciding on tire sizing and if I want to add spacers to the rear wheels. I believe I read elsewhere that you were running 5mm spacers in the rear? Does that equalize the track width between the front and the rear? Curious to why you chose 5mm rather than the more common 10 or 12mm spacers. Cheers!

FWIW I recently purchased a pair of 219m rears to run a square setup and intend to run 275/40/18 & 275/35/18. At least for now, since I'm currently running a 275/40 & 245/40 on my existing 8.5"/9.5" OEM setup. In the future perhaps I'll go full 275/35/18 to take advantage of the ability to rotate tires.

I'm currently running Swift lowering springs on OE EDC shocks and 10mm spacers on the rear, but am likely to try the 12mm spacers that I currently have on my 8.5" fronts back there once I implement the square setup. It might be a tight fit though with the 40 sidewall tires combined with the wee bit of relatively high mileage suspension sag that I have.

GL and keep us updated on what you end up running.
