I'm going to have to replace my front right one too, I think it also fell victim to an ice chunk -- either that or it got damaged at some point hitting one of our numerous potholes. What a winter. Luckily my BMW SA is also my best friend, so I always get a good deal there.

I just noticed that my screen is hanging down.

THe front Right corner of part number 20 (underbonnet screen) is hanging down. The rest of it is attached and in tact.

Is this something I can get a temp fix on? DO I need to replace the whole thing or can I just get the clips somewhere?

Dealer won't replace under warranty, waiting for quote now.

How hard is it to replace ONLY the center piece (#20)? I think my #23s are fine.

If you still have the broken piece, raise the car up and use a black zip tight. No sense in throwing money away especially if your car is lowered. My car is only 5 mos. and you will destroy this part over and over again.

I bought a replacement piece but haven't had time to put it back on. Do you need to take off the bumper to install the ones on the left and right?

Good Deal on shield

A rogue tire on the highway blew out my undercarriage/radiator shield (part# 51757899820) over the weekend.

I did some shopping around and found this deal through BMW of Morristown, NJ. It's definitely the best price I was able to find. The total shipped was only $134.

On eBay, there is a seller that has the EMI Insulation Tip for around $47. I don't know if he has any right now, when I bought them, it said I got the last ones but he might get more. Reasonable shipping prices and even includes import fees to Canada.

Hope this helps. I'm sure after this winter, a lot of people will need these.

Sorry for my noob question. But for a person with little or no experience with auto repair. Is it a simple wrench, removal and then install and tighten screw? I also want to get ramps or jack to get under car. Any suggestions. Thanks guys.

Yes, it is a fairly easy repair, about a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. You will need the front end up about 18 inches to get access. The small felt pieces on each end with a triangular shape can be replaced without removing anything else. The large center section is best done with the end felt sections removed, so if you are replacing all three, do the center section first. You need a socket wrench with an 8 mm socket (5/16" matches almost exactly as well).

Broke another one last week. Going through a construction zone. Single lane and a pile of broken asphalt debris right in line with my front left tire. Totally wrecked my left pod. So pissed that they left such a huge pile of debris right in the driving line with nowhere to go to avoid it!

The next time replace these parts, I'm going to cover them with resin much like a layer of fiber glass, only without the fiberglass. I think it will toughen these things up considerably.

Cracked one side hitting a deceptively sharp road incline too fast, paid to have it replaced. Cracked the other side when I went off track, asked the shop to use safety wire to tie the two cracked pieces together so that the rear part didn't encroach on the wheel well area. I figure that piece is a losing battle.

Just replaced the whole thing on mine. Center piece and both side pods. Cost me $500

Those things are surprisingly pricey for what's basically a piece of low quality cardboard / compressed paper thing that can easily break just by pressing on it.

the undertray I have replaced twice from road debris. I'm currently going to make custom flat pieces to eliminate the blocks to flat cf plastic piece. I will start a thread later about it and see if anyone wants one made as well.

I know the feeling its so annoying. I'm going to be making a single flat piece made of carbon plastic to cover the whole issue.
