Looks like whatever caused all those scrapes to the underside of the bumper is what created that hole.

Anyone know if there are after market parts available that aren't made of felt? Something that will last longer than this and offer more protection?

Someone should make a durable fiberglass (or carbon fiber / thermoplastic) version of these 3 parts and sell it. Could prob. make a bundle of $$$. You guys out there reading this???

I had to replace both of mine after an off track excursion at Mosport turn 2 last year. Cost $150 including install at a bodyshop.
Took out the passenger side one again a few weeks ago. Was staying at a hotel in Downtown Toronto and the entrance to their parking garage was ridiculously steep. Don't know if I damaged in going in or out but it actually got turned over and was plowing the road. Had to get out and put it back. After all the snow and ice we've had here, finally took the loose piece off. Contacted my body shop to replace the piece this week. What a PITA!

I think they are designed to break so that the things above them aren't damaged - including the mounting points. Having parts that are flexible and bendable under your car is by design. The forces of impacts and scrapes seen by those things would easily shatter something more rigid or transfer the impact to more expensive things above.

Price for these parts has gone up to $105CDN. I had both sides replaced in the spring for $150 parts and labor! Holy crap!

Too bad it's unlikely any after-market companies will make that. In the grand scheme of things it's not that expensive, and it's a part exclusive to the M3 so there won't be volume, despite them breaking left and right.

I got calls out to a few places for parts; I think I'm looking at around $300 total with shipping, hoping to get it to about $200.
Finally had a chance to remove to 3 main pieces. Not too hard. I just jacked up one side, probably don't even need too. Here are some pictures; All the other posters pictures help me determine how to remove and figure out what the hell is going on down there. Enjoy. |

I need to replace mine too. Problem is having to redo the brake ducting on mine. Shouldn't be too bad. Great thread, and part numbers are the same, as is the price, from 2011, when prices were quoted.

Finally got the 3 new pieces on, main middle piece first. I jacked up the car with the center jack part and then put jack stands on. This made it easier but not necessary.
To small hiccups, 1. The freaking clips on the felt parts spin and rip of of the hole on the new replacement parts. Only 2 clips ripped. No biggie but annoying, it doesn't mate super tight. Also do not over tighten. 2, The main cable clips once you turn them to slide in they can be tight., I had to lighty tap them in. I also did the work in my garage and the temperature was cold. Thanks all for the updates!

Finally had to replace my left one, when I parked in a spot that randomly had the front tire curb a foot farther out than the rest of the parking lot...
Bought it from the dealer, as their cost was only $10 more than online, and I didn't really want the old one to tear off at speed I asked them to quote installation:
Took me about 40 minutes to replace, and at least ten minutes of that was drinking beer Cheers
