There must be an obvious screw/sign/button that I'm missing somewhere on this thermostat housing because this thermostat is STUCK in there... Can someone tell me whats the easiest way to get this thermostat out of the housing

You just have to pull harder.

I set the assembly on the floor, used my feet to hold the housing, then used large pliers to pull the actual thermostat out. It's like Mario pulling a turnip from the ground

Good advice above. I did the below.

CAREFULLY... Use a screwdriver and pry it out. Don't pry around the edges, stick the screwdriver in the opening where the coolant would flow and pry.

Also, may want to set the housing on a cloth so you don't scratch it.

just pry it off with a flat head or chizzle away at the black hardened gasket. it's stuck because the rubber gasket has hardened and pretty much lodged itself in between the housing.

you won't damage anything, the thermostat housing is a very strong piece.
Even if you scrape up the sides of the housing, it cleans up and seals perfectly fine still.
But of course, do everything with caution. Also if you can buy the replacement o-rings for the two tubes if your car is a higher mileage S65.

I was afraid to use force in the beginning, but after I read the responses, I got it off with two channel locks gripping the thermostat
