Also, driving a dirt bike indoors seems dumb.

No worries, they use high quality double stick foam tape to secure the front plate! They don't supply the pre-painted front EURO plate bracket.

That's precisely why I took so many pictures of the car... It's not helping though. How long did it take for yours to come over?

That was the one thing that was stopping me from doing ED during the winter. So I was waiting to do ED next March Then came the winter $1500 rebate plus the $500 price hike in the new year. So that $2k would effectively had made doing ED more expensive. So now I'm doing PCD hoping for late Feb early March date!

Such a tradeoff between PCD and ED. ED if you want to take a nice vacation and enjoy the great roads of Europe. PCD if you want a detailed in-depth run-through of your car (2hr walkthrough?? - Yes Please!!) and some great instruction on how to push it to the limit.

2011 M3 PCD
201X M5 ED

Done!!

No, sadly I didn't get a chance to drive it out of BMW Welt. The weather and road conditions were less than favorable, and I don't think that I would have enjoyed the car. I'd be too worried about getting in an accident/getting it filthy etc... Next time I'll plan for delivery during a more driving friendly season.

Hmm, I actually got the $1500 rebate on my car which I wasn't expecting (not complaining).

Thanks! It couldn't believe it when I saw it in person for the first time. I was actually up in the Premium Lounge and caught a glimpse by accident. I was like, "Wow, that's a hot AW car with CF roof... and Competition Package... Wait... THAT'S MINE!!!" I then promptly grabbed my camera. Totally love at first sight.

Thank you, It's Palladium Silver on Black/Black. Option came out in either late September or early October. I was originally going to get all black. Sadly, you cannot get extended leather with the Palladium Silver on Black/Black. Made little sense to me, but the sacrifice was worth it.

Looks so much better in person, than in the pics and especially the CGI on BMWUSA's build site. Glad you like it.

It really is amazing. I had been building this trip up for months, and was worried that I would be let down after so long. If anything, my hopes were exceeded. BMW Welt is BMW Enthusiast heaven...

On another note, I am all for Global Warming when it means I can drive my E90 M3 with OEM summer tires on December 30th in Iowa.
No worries, it's only double sided tape! Trust me, I wouldn't have it any other way. I told the US dealership that I would cut the hands off of anyone that drilled holes in my bumper.

Yeah, only in Germany... He was in control the whole time though, very skilled rider. The video really doesn't capture how loud that bike was either. If only I could do ED on a BMW S1000 RR *sigh*

Glad you enjoyed it! I had planned on hitting the Museum on my last Monday there, but it was closed... I did get free tickets though, so I have an excuse to go back.

Hey Matthew.

The pics look great buddy. I am glad you did ED man. Sorry that you could not enjoy the car on the autobahn.

I just loved how they put the spot light on the car as you walked down the stairs and made it do a 360.

Welcome to the forum. I have same user id as m3forum.

I would have loved to drive the car around Europe, but my availability to pick the car up, and BMW's time-frame to deliver didn't match up very well. I wanted to get the S2000 traded in before it depreciated further, so I didn't want to push off ordering the e92 for a Spring '11 delivery date.

I traveled around Germany and Austria, but via train and not via M3. I spent about a week in Europe, but took delivery of the M3 the day before I flew back home. Next time I will be sure to stretch my car's legs a bit before it hits the boat.

Thanks!

Thank you Carlos! It was great to see BMW Welt in person (I went there twice during my stay). Plant tour was phenomenal too!

The spot light thing was epic... As I said before, love at first sight with this car. Thanks for the welcome! I started out on the BMW email digests, then bimmer.org, then as one of the founding members/moderators of DTMpower.net way back when. Just getting back into the whole online BMW thing again (took a bit of a break while I built up a GS-R, and of course had the S2000...). Nice to be back, thanks for the welcome!

I hate cross posting, but I just had such a great time there I wanted to share with as many people as I could, and hopefully sway some to do ED for themselves too. That, and I understand that not everyone has the time to to this and wanted to give a decent 1st person walkthrough of the experience.

Thanks for the heads up. BMW NA can pay for the Vorsteiner replacement if that's the case.

Beautiful car!! Strange question related to ED. Does the Euro plate they stick on the front leave holes in the bumper??

OP Nice M. I dont understand the whole Euro-delivery thing....I scratch myself and ask why? Not a big fan of the 2 tone interior, and when I saw what you passed up to get this M, I banged my head on my desk!!!! good luck anyways i guess.
