So heres the deal...

Towards the end of last year i spec'd out a bmw M3. I got a few quotes from local dealers and went with the dealer with the highest reputation for customer service. Now after reading numerous posts on these great deals eveyone seems to be getting im getting cold feet. I paid about 2500 over invoice on a '09. Now for the question at hand. How terribly of a person would I be to cancel the order and buy one off the lot at a dealership out of state? I know im gunna screw myself with the customer service end of things but i dunno....i guess im just confused....any help in the contructive form?

I began the process of getting quotes this past week and the very first offer I got was $2500 over invoice. My impression is that this is high and I think I can get 1K over invoice so I am still shopping around.

I would try and re-negotiate with the dealer to get a better deal considering the economic conditions. Cancelling the order should be the last resort. Asking for a better deal does not make you a bad person. It's just business.

I'd renegotiate. No more than 800 over.

If you didnt sign any papers then you didnt pay for anything.

Tell your local dealer that another dealer is offering $800 over and for them to match it.

you sound like someone who's toooooo kind hearted.

u gotta put ur foot down and set aside ur worries about any feelings of embarrassment u may have for going back on the deal.
dont be afraid to go back there and tell them u got a shitty deal. because u did. u should be mad that they ripped u off like this. u should not feel any sympathy or guilt or wahtever other feelings u have that makes u weak and not want to confront them about this. they know they ripped u off. they'll respect u more for asking for a better deal. u should be getting the car right at invoice at this point. at most $500 over.

i guess u can tell them u changed ur mind about color and options and want to start from scratch and order a new car. that's one way to easy into it.
hope it helps

I agree with others....lowball the dealer and see what their response is. Don't feel bad, they are a business not your mother. If they don't want to play ball (especially in the current economic situation) then go somewhere else.

Go with what you feel comfortable with and the absolute LAST thing you should be worrying about is the dealerships feelings

Go get 'em tiger

Ok its on...one last question tho. When you say "over invoice" does that include gas guzzler/dest ect or should that be added on top of invoice+ $500 or $800?

I guess the only reason i felt (yes past tense now thanks to you guys) is because im in business and hate it when ppl cancel an order at a fraction of the cost of this car. However ive never had a customer cancel an order over price or service so i believe i have a valid complaint. Ill let you all know how i do! Hopefully ill be on the road soon.

Thanks Guys

Who cares abut what "others" are getting deal wise. The only thing that matters is if you are satisfied with your deal. If you are and want that car and the service that comes from that dealership then great. If you are not comfortable with the numbers or don't have to have it right away then wait or work something else.

I'd cancel immediately. Shoot for $750 over invoice, settle for NO less than 1k over.

Too little too late for this response but cancel, cancel, cancel! Once they hear cancel they will renogotiate like their crack whore girlfriends abortion depends on it. Then you'll see their tune change.

Agree, you have to do what is best for YOU. This kind of stuff happens all the time to dealers. If you can avoid "screwing" them great, but at the end of the day who would you rather be screwed, them or you?
