Paddle Shifters: Push-Pull or Left-Right?

Which do you guys prefer? I find that push-pull is much more convenient than left-right setup paddle shifters that BMW has switched to. I believe that push-pull is much more driver oriented. Which do you prefer and why?

I never experienced paddle shifters but push-pull on both sides would seem to make more sense to me. Current Cruise Control is push to increase speed, pull to decrease. Might be the seem for the paddles, which side you use is up to personal feel and preference.

But I guess I'd get used to whichever system is in place - as long as it performs well

I actually like the old push pull. i know youre not supposed to shift while turning but I do sometimes and its a hell of a lot more convenient to just have to find one. also, I can drink my pepsi out of my shrunken cup holder and shift at the same time.

i always wanted left/right, always preferred it.... then got my steptronic...and the push pull grew on me....

Think i'd still want left right

I have both - Prefer the left/right. Too ackward to push, especially when your used to pulling left & right - instead I use the shifter.

Its definitely up to personal preference. I'm used to left/right like the new DCT, but I test drove a 2010 135i with push/pull and it drove me crazy. I think they made the push/pull mostly for traffic circles, especially here where starting from a stop and shifting while turning is required in those circles. you wouldn't need to hit the correct paddle, you could hit either.

Still, I wasnt used to it, I was used to left/right, so I screwed that up really quick, lol.

tbh the first hundred miles or so pissed me off tremendously. but after that i got used to it and im pretty content. just gotta memorize the motor functions from what you are used to and youre set.

left right...but i hate bmw paddles are on the steering wheel and not on the steering column.

i want to rewire my paddles so that they're up on the right and down on the left, and change them for the new ones like the 550i.

i prefer the shifter as well. but i like the push/pull concept more than left/right

Left/Right for me, hands down. Test drove an automatic 335i before buying my 6MT and at first I couldn't get it to downshift. Took me a while to figure out that it was a push/pull setup. I found it very counterintuitive and it didn't even occur to me at first that they would set it up that way. Why even have two paddles then? Natural assumption for me is that one paddle is for up and one is down. I mean it was good enough for F1 and Ferrari.

Oh well, that's why the car I bought has 3 pedals.

Paddles attached to the movement of the steering wheel are great for the track, but not so great in a daily driver when you cross over your hands.

For a pure track car, I'd prefer on the steering wheel though. So perhaps I need to reserve seat time in my car for the weekends more.
