OZ Racing Challenge - track wheels

Anyone run OZ's on their E92 M3? I had a set of 18" Utraleggera OZ's on my E46 as track wheels and loved them. I called Tirerack and they do have the OZ challenge in 18x10 with ET25 offset. However they did say it may require fender work in the front which i really don't want to do.

I am also considering the Apex ARC-8 in the same size however i don't believe they require any modification - Bimmerworld says they are specifically made for the E92 M3.

I am thinking i may be fine with the OZ given the same size/offset as the Apex. Any thoughts?

A lot of guys are running the Apex ARC-8 without any issues. Seems to be a very popular set up. I have set of forgelines that are 18x10 and I don't have any issues either. As long as you run the right tire, I cant imagine you would have any issue unless their 10" wheel is actually much wider than stated. Offset of ET25 certainly works on other wheels on our cars.

Thanks for the feedback. Do your Forgelines have an offset of ET25?

Not in my case - I believe mine are ET27

18x10 ET25 is fine depending on your tire diameter. Most people go with 275/35/18 (myself included). With the OZ wheels I would just be careful with making sure it has the exact center bore 72.56. You don't want to deal with hub rings or a slightly off wheel that shakes your steering.

Yes i would be using 275/35/18 tires. The OZ's do not require hub centric rings and use the BMW standard bolts. So you don't experience any rubbing with a 18 x 10 wheel with ET25 offset on the front?

No rubbing with stock ZCP dampers, camber at -2.5, and Nitto tires. Not sure if lowering or different camber would make a difference. 275/35/18 is a slightly smaller diameter tire so I think that helps.

I too have been eye-balling these new OZ wheels. They are reasonably priced - not much more than Apex. I trust OZ far more than Apex. OZ has top level pedigree in the wheel business with lots of racing experience.

18 x 10 et25 does fit but it is an aggressive fitment. I agree that 275/35/18 tires are the best option. I would expect to need negative camber to make them fit properly - even at stock ride height. Also note that you will likely need a 5mm spacer if you have KW coilovers. Unfortunately the KW helper spring reduces the inner clearance when they are set to a low ride-heights. Note:
  • Only available in 18 x 10 et25 fitment for BMW. Also sold in Porsche and Viper fitment.
  • They clear 380mm Stoptech Trophy brakes. I'm not sure about other BBK clearance.
  • They do not accept center caps
  • Black finish only for BMW
  • Weight is in low 20 lb range - not super light
Here are some pictures of them on an M3 for those interested:

thanks for the additional info. The wheels look great on the M3. I also really like OZ which is why i want to get these wheels over other alternatives if they fit properly. I wasn't planning on modifying my stock suspension (ZCP). Are you saying they may not sit flush with the front fender without some negative camber?

I just picked up a set last week as I was in the market for a track set of wheels & tires. I went with 18x10 square setup with Toyo r888 275/35/18. Was looking at the Nittos but the at $150/ea for the Toyos I'd figure I'd give them a go.

Just came back from a track event at Mosport on Monday and had no issues with the tires and wheels. No rub and what a difference over OEM street setup!!!

The OZ Challenge is low pressure casted. When compared to flow-formed wheels they aren't typically as light or as strong. So you can trust OZ for cool looking wheels but I have seen 3 cracked Ultralegerras. Not the same wheel but I believe the same manufacturing.

This doesn't mean you won't have good luck but for the price you can buy much better wheels: APEX, TRM, etc.

See the link below. You are correct that these wheels are low pressure cast (according to press release). As a result, they are a little heavy (I think around 24 lbs). They do however have TUV approval which is a good thing. I have not observed ultraleggera failures but that wheel does seem very light relative to its size. I think the OZ Challenge is built a little tougher considering its weight. I honestly don't think most OZ's look "cool" myself. Their designs and offsets are not all that appealing to me in general (including the Challenge wheel which is a little plain). I do however think the Challenge wheels seem like a good track option and OZ has a far better reputation than the alternatives you suggested.

Tire rack sells them but they don't show up on their search function for the M3. The reason is that they are an aggressive fitment and tire rack wants to control the sales process to avoid angry customers. Tire rack's wheel and tire fitment recommendations are always very conservative. My recollection is that they cost around $450 ea and weigh 24 lbs. Simply call tire rack to confirm. I believe tire rack is the exclusive US OZ wheel distributor.
