Best Pulley / Filter for my 2011 M3 ~ Dinan?
Just finished reading a few threads from members using various brands of drop in filters and pulleys. It seems everyone is going off their "butt" dyno but no solid test numbers?
Is Dinan still the leader here or are there better companies now? It's been a while since my e46 m3 days and haven't been following the trends. The only mod on the car right now is a Eisenmann Race exhaust but plans are to add coilovers next Anyone who has these mods please chime in here.... thanks

Macht Schnell has both Power Pulleys and Performance Filters - quite a few M3 owners are running the setups and are very pleased with the results.

^Tom, can you PM me a price quote for both the pulley and air filter? Any documented power gains with those mods?
thanks for your reply so quickly!

FYI,
Filter discussion: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=filter Pulley discussion: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ey+power+gains I feel like these two mods together might only net you about 15rwhp. Exhaust and a tune is the best way to go for performance.

There's no reason to go with the both Pulley/Filter and Exhaust/Tune packages. For those looking to choose on a strict budget - the filter/pulley combo is the best bang for the buck for those starting out on mods.

Agreed. We're all different but if it were me I'd just go filter, pulley, exhaust, tune, etc for simplicity sake.

Pulleys are a fixed item, and most are similar sized with exception of the Dinan piece, which is the smallest of the group.
The stock belt is a 6 rib double-sided belt. The Macht Schnell Pulley system uses a 2-pulley system, which allow standard belts (readily available from any auto parts store) to be used - a factor to consider when belt replacement is due as you do not want to be dependent on one specific retailer for proprietary belts. The MS pulleys also do not affect Air Conditioning performance which will also be underdriven on a 1 pulley solution.

I have the AFE drop in filter, Dinan pulleys, Dinan exhaust, Dinan tune and stage 3 Dinan suspension. The best mod by far is the suspension, it turned the car into a whole new animal. As far as the other mods, well lets just say I really wish I did a supercharger. While the exhaust sounds nice and there is a little more power I dont know if its worth the cash. I also did every mod all at once so I have no perspective on how effective each mod is individually.

I did the Dinan pulley and it is more dough than the others. If you plan to do the install yourself, choose another brand. The belt that comes with the Dinan is too small and it's a bitch to get on. Many others have commented on the same thing including EAS. Overall, I like the power gains and the quality but there are easier solutions for DIY guys.

I realize I am bringing a thread back from the dead here. I am thinking about a pulley and would like to have an objective comparison across the main players. Most importantly which systems (water pump, steering, electrical, AC) are being under driven and by how much? Also are all available for DCT cars? What about the belt situation, would be nice to have common belts? Thanks in advance.

These are subjective questions. I have active autowerke pulley and filter. Love both and see small improvement over stock. Unfortunately i did the dyno after these were installed and not before.

I would just buy whatever used one you find for sale in the forums. I ended up with an MS pulley for about $180 and bought a belt from NAPA for about $25. I would have bought Dinan if it had been for sale used or AA unless the price of the AA belt was a lot more than a standard belt.

You must understand subjective vs. objective. The questions I have asked all have 100% objective answers. I will check the thread mentioned by AA. Thanks all.

I personally have the Macht Schnell pulley and intake and I love it.. It is a difference in power that you can feel especially mid to up top on the powerband. Add the (I have the turners similar in design)MS test pipes and you will basically have yourself all the power you can squeeze out of this motor before going SC.

Dinan does use a standard double-ribbed belt, but can be a bit difficult to find.
