i had a hell of a time keeping up with a new cayman gts with nt01's. they are pretty even with us as far as performance goes while wearing the same tires- even in the straights.

right but the car was built on par with 65k cars it wasnt built to rival a brand new STi for 40k so theres always going to be a big gap no matter how much it depreciated. a Gallardo can be had for about 90k now but i dont think theres many 90k cars that can rival a Gallardo because it wasnt built to be in that bracket

I would never take any Cayman or 997 GT3 over the M3. I've driven them on track and am not impressed at all. To answer the thread, I don't really see anything substituting the E9X M3. I have two and wish I could get a third one. I also like the M5/6 but dislike the turbo engine. Maybe the M4 GTS, but that isn't really a daily driver and is also turbo.

If you want to compare used $90k cars, then compare used $90k cars. A Porsche 997.2TT PDK with some mods can be had for $90k and rival the stock Gallardo you might buy used for $90k. Hopefully, though, none of us paid $90k for our E9M3. |

I heard the 991.2 CS with the sport package is really quick. But I also heard you can't fully defeat traction control according to a drift instructor, I was sort of turned off by that. |

One day I'll understand how a 150k GT3 has 'don't use slicks' in the manual |

It seems the GT3 comes up often as the apparent UPGRADE for the e90/92 M3.
I’d love a 2007 997 GT3, but these are still in the $80-90k range today. Crazy how they have held their value over 10 years. For this amount of money, wouldn’t a used full tilt 2016 c7 Z06 w/z07 package be a better choice than an ancient 2007 GT3? Cheaper too. |

The lateral G's derived with slicks on the 991 GT3 could potentially cause oil starvation IIRC. But here's the thing. You can turn it into a dedicated race car, just don't use slicks, and Porsche won't void your warranty. That is pretty amazing.

So hard to beat the E90/E92 M3's for the price. 997 Porsche 911 S maybe, or a F10 M5. There is really nothing out there that is as great as the E90/E92 M3. The S65 is something else, puts a smile on my face every time I hear it's music. Not too many cars if any in that price range that can do that. Keep the E90 M3 or sell and buy a E92 M3.
