E90 M3 Shift Lever Malfunction

Hey everyone

So I purchased my first M3 back in march and have had it for a couple of months now. haven't had any issues with it and have been on top of maintenance. Just this morning when I started up the car and threw it into gear I got a error code saying "Possible malfunction in the shift lever." From there the car wouldn't go into any gear other than reverse or neutral. Now I live in Florida and we don't get cold weather down here very often. but we did have a cold front come through last night and I was curious if that could have something to do with the contacts inside the shiftier. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

I had this happen one time with my car. I turned it off for 5 minutes and back on. All was fine and it never occurred again. I think it happened because I was so quick to shift into reverse on startup.

Intermittent malfunction. Carry on. If it continues then look at replacing the assembly. BMW made some internal changes to the DCT shifter so there is a new and old version of the part, FYI.

Few months late for the reply. but took the vehicle to the dealership and it turned out it was a GWS failure and they replaced the entire module. $600 fix but I'm at least happy to be back on the road.

Car went into this mode a few months back and went away after turning off for a few minutes and on again. However, the same issue returned today and in the middle of traffic at a stop light it refused to go into gear. Tried turning it on and off but didn't help. Called a tow truck and car is currently at the shop waiting to get looked at.

Update: Car had a total of 17+ codes including numerous transmission codes. All codes were reset and the car started and drove normal. Waiting to see if any codes return, but the car has been running like normal with no issues even when driven hard.
