I did mine 4 years ago and have 20k miles on the original no extra clearance vac rod bearings and arp bolts. I've done oci every oc since as well as checking the oil filter for flakes. No issues to date.

I see it (myself) as not a clearance issue but an issue with improper warm ups as well as reducing friction on the bearing for oil to move past. I also use Redline 5w50 oil. That's my personal input on it. My shop has been using WPC treated OEM bearings + ARP bolts for quite some time now, with not a single car back with bearing issues. This gave me the piece of mind to go with something tried and true.

Previously done? How would you know?
If you're the 2nd or 3rd owner, and bought from a dealership (BMW or otherwise), how would you know if they were done if you can't track down the previous owner(s)? oil analysis looks ok so far, so... spend $2400 or not?

If it’s not in the dealers records and you see no signs underneath that things were disassembled, highly unlikely they were replaced.
Oil analysis is not indicative or helpful on later model years. |

First figure out your build year. This will correlate to what bearings were used in your engine. You're on the cusp of when they changed bearing materials. The older models had bearings that contained copper in them. So if your oil analysis contained relative amounts of copper you could assume that they are of the older composition, thus not replaced.

There’s no way to tell unless you open it up. You can’t trust oil analysis, few members on here had good report and their engine failed weeks after. Just get them changed.

Should be an option for OEM, and OEM treated bearings.
