My boy Mugsy... First week at home and riding shotgun in the M. Always with a harness. Usually he's in the back of the 4Runner though.

What you missed with my post was th eplacement of the dog. The ONLY reason to have a dog in the front seat of a car is to show it off, like it's a watch or something. Dogs, when they are in a car, should be in the back, strapped in safely.

It amazes me that people claim to love thier dogs and then deliberately put them in harm's way and then have the nerve to attack the people that point out that this is a bad idea. I care enough about my animals to not put them in danger so the people driving by can see them.

I disagree. I've never heard of anyone wanting to show off their dog by letting it sit in the front seat. I just think people don't know any better or they don't view their dog as a child, so they don't think to strap it down safely. People who carry their dogs around in purses are the ones treating them as accessories. Most people who let their dogs travel in the car with them aren't intentionally putting them in the front seat to show off. They probably have well-behaved dogs that they forget about safety.

I only put my dog in the front seat so I could take a picture of him in the car for ya'll. He actually travels in the back seat inside a pop-up kennel that's strapped down. You can find them at Target for 20 bucks or so... they're awesome and really easy to fold up and store in the trunk

i dont think that it is the ONLY reason dogs are in the front seat....i put my dogs in the back seat, and they jump off, and crawl underneath to get onto the front seat...they just dont like being alone...at least mine...i never really thought about "showing off" my dogs....and when comparing it to a watch, i just dont understand...how do u even show off a watch? dont u just wear it???

Mine rides with me occasionally. But he thinks the growl of the engine is another dog under the car growling at him and he gets a little agitated, tries to find it (and point at it), looks at me with a questioning look and won't settle down. It's interesting. He's very sentient. Sorry the pic does not have him in the backseat.

Our girl (Husky/Lab/Shepherd cross) thinks the same thing when the exhaust opens up in the F. She is definitely not a fan....lol.

Not to kill the thread but unless dogs are not subject to g-force when you slam on the brakes to avoid accident, a stupid driver ahead would it not force your dog to slam into your dash. Front seat co-pilot without a seat belt is dangerous and specially on a fast car like an M3.

Just a thought.

i have a dog too and yes what you mentioned happens sometimes. thats why when i drive with my dog, i have to be more careful. i usually try not to accelerate or brake very hard and take a more leisurely cruise rather than staying close to the back of all the other cars ahead of me. just cos you drive an m3 doesnt mean you have to drive like faster than everyone else.
