I'm interested in the mods as well.. currently own a e46 with 300WHP. I also just purchased a 2011 light weight e92.

What is the point of putting the angry "Read the thread" guy at the beginning of your post? Are you disappointed with 480hp? Is it that your car is all stock and you think the reading is bogus?

The way I read it, the dyno result is not even close to accurate.
If a stock (assuming) 3.2l M3 pulled 320hp (typically in the 220-230hp range), I would think the dyno is screwed up in some way. I am not dyno expert, but it appears the 3.2l M3's reading is about 100hp too high, again, assuming it was stock. I am again assuming he is questioning wtf is up with the dyno, not reporting that his car is an ubber-beast. lol OP, correct me if I am wrong.

Did the dyno automatically calculate bhp instead a of rwhp???
480bhp with mods - I think that's up there, but can it be achieved without a SC?

The OP's point is that the dyno is way out of whack.
There is no way, even with all the available mods (pulley, tune, intake, exhaust etc.) to generate a 65+ bhp gain. It cannot be done. The only way to generate that kind of increase is to either remove the engine and modify it internally (like Dinan) or put forced induction on it. Sounds like the owner of this dyno is playing with it to generate big numbers for his client. Sad, but this kind of nonsense is rampant.

Dyno Test
The test equipment was calibrated and was being used at the UK Car Mod Nationals so i would be suprised at it being wrong for dyno testing?

The M3's S54 naturally aspirated engine produces more than 100 horsepower (75 kW) per litre (343 horsepower (256 kW)/3.2 litre). It;s quite simple guys,
if you read the dyno cheating thread I have pointed out that if the M3 is dynoed in the wrong gear on a DD machine you will get a completely silly figure. Not to say that in anyway LS are cheating but have simply made a mistake and used 4 gear instead of 3rd. Nothing to worry about, go back and get it tested in the correct gear. |

These figures are derived from the wheel figures which are also recorded simultaenously and can be displayed. The great thing about shoot out mode is that it displays all of the conditions during the run. This will be something your also not used to seeing and it's probably the most important feature which no one wants to show for some unknown reason! All dyno runs should be done in shoot out mode and if the main interest is in RWHP then that can be shown instead + you get all of the atmospheric conditions (used to calculate the correction factor). |
