Based on how the car responds in anything but sunny weather in Sport Plus I would think you're giving up ease of driving. How much faster throttle response than the sport plus do you need?

I guess this assumes the rest of your intake system can get enough air to the throttle bodies? And the exhaust lets all the added burnt fuel out? Are the throttle bodies the limiting factor on the intake side of this engine?

I agree entirely with you statement. I don´t think these cars need improved throttle response. I´ve driven mine on track on a number of occasions and am convinced that car may require a tad more power than stock w/o weight increases if possible and brakes. The rest I think is just fine. The power increase should not be more than 10bhp (the S85 throttle bodies produce as much as 12bhp) so not much there probably either. May be worth it in conjunction with other mods though.

Sure you can look at it as 7bhp for $2000 but then you are over looking the 2 points that it gives you. That's what makes is a bargain

Yeah, they had them on the Steve Dinan's car at the time i was there last week. I talked to a few people there and they all said that the car feels so much different ... :
I guess the only way to find out is to go there and test drive it ... |

That is true. But before you do so, find out what other mods that car has.

BMW-M-Mexico, PG, JMD and I all looked into adding these onto our stroker motor but we decided to can it since the HP to $$$ ratio is so poor.
Im sort of shooting in the dark here so correct me if this is not accurate. If you have bigger throttle bodies you must bore out the exhaust valves to make it worth anything otherwise it becomes a bottleneck. IF I remember correctly this is why we didnt do it, even though we have bored exhaust vales and header it still wasnt going to do much for us. |

I know a buddy of mine that does Porsche Throttle bodies I'm sure he'll do the M3 for a helluva lot less then $2k. How hard is it to get to the stock throttle bodies? Major work? or a few bolts/screws?

This is a mod that you don't do in isolation.
Start with exhaust, FDR, chip then finally throttle bodies. I suspect that the high revving M3 intake can take advantage of the added flow. The proposed benefits of each mod will not be additive, so you can't at 6hp plus, 15 hp, plus 25 hp and get 46 hp. The final answer will be more like say 38 to 40 hp, plus the impact of FDR. Still, this will result in a signficantly faster M3. Dave |

if Dinan listed 8h of labor, then my guess is it is not just a few screws ... They listed 4.7h labor for the LSD installation and it took them ~5.5h to do that.

also if you look at their website, they are saying that the High Flow Throttle Bodies and Free Flow Mufflers will add another 20hp to the M5's stroker ...
I am sure PG they will be interested to test them on your car, so maybe you will clear the air ... |

I ordered a Dinan throttle bodies today, along with the Dinan 4.10 and Active Auotowerke's muffler set. They'll all be installed at once, so I won't be able to give part by part benchmarks, just one final seat of the pants review.
Waiting on deliveries now and I'll take the completed car back on 2/14 and post impressions. Dave |
