Thought I'd resurrect this post, purely for info in case anyone has had the DCT update:

I went to book an oil change at my local dealers today after the idrive told me it needed one after counting down the mileage for a few weeks. Last week it said I needed it "Urgently". So having got my oil from Opie, went to the dealers explained what I wanted, they then put the key fob into its reader which told them that I had 4900 miles before the oil change was due. Told them what the idrive was telling me and the disparity was clear.

They took the car in, plugged it in and it appeared that when I had the DCT update it must have given the idrive a hissy fit thus giving me two different due dates for oil change. They have reset the settings and the correct reading is now that the oil change is due in 4900 miles, and both fob and idrive are now singing from the same song sheet.

hi all... sorry to come back on this but... still cannot get my dealer to upgrade the software of the DCT to the latest one.. despite complaining already twice about the lag. Basically sometimes simply doesn't want to accelerate out of 2nd gear.. hence the lag.. then BOOM burst of acceleration..

I asked them to look at it.. they keep saying M3 are like this and there's nothing they can do about it. I then asked to check at least the software that is on the car at the moment.. and they refuse to do this, worst, they wanted to CHARGE ME to check the software version that is on the car at the moment.

The service advisor was just able to tell me that it had already been upgraded in Feb 09 from E89X-08-09-515 to E89X-08-09-530... so that should be the one I have on at the moment..

Seems there's a much more recent one, can you confirm ? I will have first major service done very soon.. i think i will go to the dealer that guarantees me the upgrade, can't take it anymore..

All advice welcome..

Hi Rosino,

This is a warranty issue and as such will be fixed by any BMW dealership FOC. Which dealer is telling you these porkies? Please name and shame.

I stongly advise you take you car to another dealer who will do the software upgrade under warranty. You may be well advised to contact Anneka at Sytner through the forum. If no joy there then please contact BMW UK and complain as THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE in my opinion!!!

I'm retyping my reply to your initial post on this topic below which as you can see states a new release of the software summer 2009 to which my car was upgraded FOC and is now a pleasure to drive...

"Just searched out the SIB info and posting it here for you...

http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B280708g.htm

This shows that BMW were clearly aware of the problem some time ago.
It states categorically "To significantly improve the throttle response (or to reduce "throttle lag"), reprogram the vehicle with the current ISTA/P version (target integration E089-09-03-510 or higher, introduced in ISTA/P 2.33.1)." Have you printed this out and shown the dealer?
Basically this states that the problem is fixed from software version 2.33.1 onwards. I believe mine was updated to 2.34.1 last July and I haven't had the lag issue since and I drive 99% of the time in D2.

Good luck in getting this addressed and as I said in my previous post it's shocking that a BMW dealer can sell the car without this update which addresses a potentially dangerous issue."

Good luck!

Do any of you guys have the update from May 2010? If so - can you provide me the version number?

Cheers,

There's another update? For DCT? What is this meant to address?

Had mine updated in Feb 2010 and this was the code then: E89X-09-12-512.

It did take overnight to download as it comes in torrents sorry not a computer geek and Im over 40 and not up to date with this new found technology stuff and nonsense! There maybe a newer version but not had any problems since so wouldn't really know/

Hope that helps and you should notice a difference.

My M3 arrives in 2 weeks time and took a leap of faith with DCT despite having never tested it and having always driven a manual - threads like this are making me a bit nervous!

Do any of you in hindsight wish you had gone 6MT?? (not trying to jack the thread ...a simple yes or no would be great )

Many thanks

Steve

Cheers for the reply mate, how long did it take you to get used to the transmission and is it quite intuitive? My main concern TBH is parking and stop/start speeds through town.

The DCT is fine. It takes a little more revs when its cold to engage the clutch but after a mile its just like any other auto. Parking and stop/starts are no problem as the clutch is fully disengaged when you are at a stand still i.e you don't have to hold it on the brake.

Dougie.

Manual vs DCT

Had the manual E92 Nov 09 - Jan 2010
got the one I have now in March - DCT
The gearbox is a peach!
I would never go back to a manual

You get used to it in days.... just fiddle about with the settings until you find something you are comfy with... then when you want balls out just bang everything on full... remember you cant put it into S6 unless you turn off the DSC first.
Through town I normaly keep it in D2 but with the Power button on to give it a little kick.
