Great thanks, I will check them out.

Do you know if they have done this mod before?

+1 on Muffin. Despite the weird name, they're a great and experienced shop. Very good pricing too. Not sure if they've done that mod before, but if you print a good DIY or description I'm certain they'll be able to do it no problem.

Update: I called Dr Beemer and he said he can't do the mod since he is the rep for 2 after market exhaust companies.

Dropped by Muffin Muffler with pictures of the mod. The guy just smiled at me and said he is not interested.

Talked to Larry at L&L Automotive really nice guy. He said they could probably do it. But, they are super busy and working on multiple ground up resto's

Still searching... open to any other recommendations. I didn't realize this would be a task getting someone to do this mod. Perhaps I need to advertise the job on Craigslist!

E90 OEM catback exhaust mod

Not sure if this will help, but..... a few posts down I offered up a virtually brand new cat back exhaust for an E90 if anyone wanted it (it's in Houston). It would be perfect for use for an exhaust mod w/o having your car out of service while the work was being done.

I'm getting ready to put it out in the trash if no one wants it. It is yours if you come get it.

Trash comes tomorrow, but I'll wait another week if you want it. Let me know.

You don't need a muffler shop per se. You just need to find someone who is willing to weld. Find a welder. I'm sure there's plenty of starving welders in Austin. They may be posing as artists.

That's what I did because no one in Dallas wants to do it either. My friend fabricates Motorcycle Frames so he had all the tools I really needed. I cut the muffler open, removed the dead animal living inside, used header wrap instead of cutting and welding in new pipes (reversible and easier than trying to cut and weld the perf. pipes) and handed it over to him to weld back together.

Thanks all, I'm going to take 540gone up on his kind offer of a spare OEM E90 exhaust. This will hopefully give me more options in Austin to get the mod done without giving up my car for a prolonged length of time.

Still if anyone has any recommendations for the work, let us know. Cheers

Chop it open yourself(~$26) and wrap the perforated pipe with exhaust wrap(~$18), then hire someone on Craigslist to weld the unit back up(~$70). Should only take them an hour if you have everything else done. I used vibration-resistant hose clamps(~$15) to secure and have had no issues.

Or...you could get a membership at Techshop up in RoundRock(~$150) and go do it yourself. They have tons of machines there you could learn to use as well to get your moneys worth. It will take a lot longer but you will have a lot of fun. As far as welding goes they have a mig and a tig.

Word of caution, I welded mine up(not there) and that double layer stamped sheet is a PITA. It took a some trial with settings and technique so make sure you have someone able to guide.

And remember, it's not about how good you can weld but how good you can grind!

Ok folks - finally got it done and installed myself. The perforated sections were wrapped instead of cut and replaced.
Cold start is louder, once settled you can hear a deeper tone from the exhaust. Lower revs and going thru the gears from stand still sounds mean. Once the speed is up I can't really tell the difference.
Downshifting is cool... produces a more pronounced sound.

Overall very happy with this mod. On a side note, I need to order new rubber exhaust mounts that sit either side of the can. For some reason mine were showing some wear and tear.

Now what's next on the list

Call Blacksmith Performance Fabrication.

He is in San Antonio, just an hour drive from ya. I am 100% sure he is willing to do it. Guy does amazing fab work and has amazing welds as well. Has done work for me and friends before and never disappoints.
